The Gallery Tunic is a perfect “fake” shirt. You get a collar and placket to work with, but it’s a really easy placket technique. There are no buttonholes and fitting is easy as it’s a loose fitting style with pleats front and back for extra ease.
I’m living in a dress I made recently from this pattern, so it’s was to wear too.

@caraskates I searched for the image (frozen ignoramus I’m afraid) and how about this: Music Class blouse, Lazy Days Skirt then a bodice whatsit that laces at the back to go over the top.
Then you’ve got separates that are wearable as everyday items and whack in the brooch at the neck and the bodice and you’re instantly Anna.
You could use a…[Read more] -

Thank you for your help. I want to sew the trim on the fancier way because the inside of the hems are visible at times.

@kmac0107 Kim, do you mind if the trim shows on the reverse side?
If you don’t then it would be as simple as turning up the hem allowance, pinning the trim to the underside then stitching it on while stitching the hem.
If you want to go fancier…. You could try the following:
Trim off any hem allowance in excess of a 1/2 seam allowance. Line up…[Read more] -

I went berserk looking for it online and whatever, but of course they had it right there for a great price… and so much better quality (a washable wool/poly blend) than what the uniform companies make…[Read more]

Is there a tutorial that shows the best way to add cotton lace trim to the hem of the Swingset Skirt and to the sleeves of the Butterfly Blouse? Thank you for your help.

Reeni replied to the topic Sketchbook shirt dress? in the forum oliver + s: sketchbook 8 years ago
it would be cute — I turned the schooldays tunic into a dress and it came out really nice. The only issue dd had with it was that it was straight, skimming the hips and thus too narrow to really run in by knee level. if that might be an issue for your dd, you could either flare the side seams out into an a-line after the “waist,” or maybe add gussets.

I sewed a tie (as opposed to bowties, and knitted one 5 years ago — very Mad Men/ 80’s britpop!) as part of my son’s uniform — what they call “full uniform” for Mass days. I riffed off the Purl tutorial, adding a fun bright orange lining to offset the boring required navy outer, and changing the order of steps a little so I could machine-sew…[Read more]

A third vote here! I have had great success with Jalie patterns — they fill in for dd’s dancewear needs when o+S won’t do! I have tried 3 of their patterns thus far (I make them up with spandex remnants I get in the NY Garment district) — the sizing is all in one from toddler to adult 16 so I just trace it in really good light. Dd has a small…[Read more]

But I’ll dress as a fish
And I’ll come if I wish

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Coverstitch Machine? in the forum off topic 8 years ago
@purplevann1 if you really only want to hem t-shirts then my suggestion is to get familiar with a twin needle and woolly nylon. It will be almost free compared to coverstitch, dead easy to change thread colour and saves having to store another machine.
