  • I know it’s only a couple of days away but I have this urge to go with a Valentine’s theme for my daughter to wear to kindy on Thursday.

She wears a top that acts as a “uniform” but we are allowed to use any kind of bottoms. It’s summer and will be hot on Thursday (41 degrees c).

I’m thinking of using the music class skirt and appliqué hearts…[Read more]

  • Thanks Todd

It’s a shame because I did use it. I seem to be notorious for doubling and tripling up, even though I have a good system for paper patterns. I just didn’t want to do the same with he pdf’s. Yes going through the list of purchases is what I did do.
    Thanks again.

  • Hi,

Just wondering about the change in being able to see our PDF purchases? I could have sworn last time I was able to see my huge list and how many downloads I had on each.

I’m in the process of upgrading some patterns due to my youngest now measuring more of a 4 than a 3. I would dearly love to know if we can still access our PDF list again s…[Read more]

So I finished the bear carrier and messenger bag. They were a hit (I think) even though the carrier has been balked at a few times. She was willing to try it for size when I was positioning buttons.

The messenger bag has been well received. All baby doll stuff was dumped on the table and the bag promptly filled with toy trains (anyone want toy…[Read more]

I did have plans to sew everyone something for Christmas but I was woefully under prepared with supplies so I didn’t. However, we have a third birthday fast approaching (on Saturday to be exact) and I am sewing up a storm for this. I have three dresses from a different pattern company I have made, two of which are accompanied by dolly sized m…[Read more]

  • Hi @thesimpson5 I think you are on the right track. Even though I have always had the opposite issue of having to go out a size over going in a size. The method is just the same, gradually take the line into the 4 from the waist. Although, because it is a pleated style there will be volume when sitting etc as part of the design, you could try just…[Read more]

Faux fur and my machine doing buttonholes do NOT mix! Neither party is cooperating! Am contemplating magnetic bag snaps instead! Have to get this done before it heats up again (likely by the looks of the forecast to be next weekend😱). So much for winter weather!

Have a super long list on the to do. Next is an applepicking dress.

    Melbourne fabric shops – sigh!

My most recent Oliver and s make has been the playtime dress for a Teddy Bear’s picnic. I also made the cozy bear hood in faux fur and I am currently working on fixing/ finishing the forest path cape in the same faux fur.

Nicole is the coated denim under another description at all? My server obviously has language…[Read more]

  • Hi Julie @juviboston

If this young lady measures just 22 1/2″ around the chest, I would be inclined to make a size 4 and use the length of an 8 if she is within the height measurements specified for this size. It would make it far too big to make a size 6 as the amount of ease is 2 inches and it is ample.

I would measure her height to find out…[Read more]

    Hello there Heidi😄

Thanks for the reply. Yes I think they might’ve felt a little overdressed last year judging from the comments in the newsletter. We didn’t purposefully go looking for dresses over the summer holidays but as we were walking through Myer she made the comment of “I like that one!” To a black and red fit and flare on the mannequin.…[Read more]

    Hi

    It’s been a while.

My 14 year old daughter is weeks away from her first dressy event. She and her cohort of boarders will be going on a dinner cruise in about three weeks. It will be her first sort of “dance party” type event and she needs a dress.

The dress code is “cocktail” style but it’s been specified that it has to be pretty but not…[Read more]

  • Hi @grandmak

I honestly couldn’t say why! I have made the field trip raglan many times and have honestly not noticed the instructions not mentioning to finish the seams. I just go ahead and do that anyway. If you have an overlocker/ serger you can opt to use this instead of the sewing machine and this way it finishes the seams as you sew. If not…[Read more]

  • Maybe sew something small Sharon? Dolly’ clothes? Something for the home even? Just to get you warmed up. Easter outfits for the kids?

Maybe the weather is not helping? When it is extreme in temps, my sewer goes missing. Thankfully it has stuck around this time (but we shall see when school goes back next week and it’s hot as hot can be)

    I hope…[Read more]

    Hi @fitdoc

I am going to make it no secret how much I like Janome machines. I didn’t learn on one but my first machine was one and I have stuck with them since. I would strongly encourage you to go to a dealer and just have a look. Often they will let you play or they can give you a demo of the ones you like the look of. Websites are also good…[Read more]

  • Hi Tara (@4dfamily98)

Would he like them in denim? If so you could try Threadbare fabrics – they have cone denim which is a high quality denim, both rigid and stretch.

Otherwise you could try Fabric.com. They have twill, corduroy and other pant weight fabrics that may be suitable. Samples can be requested which would be helpful.

  • I understand but in this case, you’d want a 6-12 month size (if baby fits the measurement of course). Some pattern pieces won’t require sticking together in the smaller size range. They are still nested but fit onto the page and it would be say a bodice piece if this were the case.

It will save time should you revisit the pattern later on because…[Read more]

  • Hi Suzanne @theartsypaul

The PDF patterns are all nested, meaning the sizes are all together as you assemble the pattern. So with this in mind, tracing would be a great option in order to have your size and preserve the pattern for when different sizes are required.

    Hope this helps

  • My eldest preferred hers with buttons at the front.

  • Hi Deanna

There are some really great classes on Craftsy involving fitting. I have particularly found the classes by Joi Mahon helpful. The reason for this is that even though I have a dressmaker’s dummy to pin my Muslims onto, it doesn’t look like me and of course because of this it turns out totally wrong and fits the dummy not myself.

    Joi…[Read more]
