You should try it @enbee you might be surprised. This is a 1m cut and as you can see it wasn’t even square.

I’d second the Art Museum trousers idea, but…
You could almost certainly squeeze a City Stroll skirt onto a 1m cut of linen. Just sayin… It’s yours. 🙂 -

The Gallery Tunic is a perfect “fake” shirt. You get a collar and placket to work with, but it’s a really easy placket technique. There are no buttonholes and fitting is easy as it’s a loose fitting style with pleats front and back for extra ease.
I’m living in a dress I made recently from this pattern, so it’s was to wear too.

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Frozen Fever Anna – Halloween in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 8 years ago
@caraskates I searched for the image (frozen ignoramus I’m afraid) and how about this: Music Class blouse, Lazy Days Skirt then a bodice whatsit that laces at the back to go over the top.
Then you’ve got separates that are wearable as everyday items and whack in the brooch at the neck and the bodice and you’re instantly Anna.
You could use a…[Read more] -

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Add cotton lace trim to hem and sleeves in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 8 years ago
@kmac0107 Kim, do you mind if the trim shows on the reverse side?
If you don’t then it would be as simple as turning up the hem allowance, pinning the trim to the underside then stitching it on while stitching the hem.
If you want to go fancier…. You could try the following:
Trim off any hem allowance in excess of a 1/2 seam allowance. Line up…[Read more] -

Thanks @reeni – very helpful info. I’ll use the Purl Soho one then, and will make a cardboard pressing tool as well. I’m going to use cotton lawn for my first attempt. I’m hoping for the best!

My husband has put in a request for some new ties. (He went from working from home in t-shirts and shorts to a job where he actually needs a jacket and tie.)
Has anyone actually made one? There are a couple of tutorials that I’ve been checking out – one from Purl Soho and the other from Thread Theory. I’d love advice if anyone has actually…[Read more]

Great idea, Sarvi!! It probably would have been a little easier to add width prior to cutting, giving you some “wiggle room” / options with design concept. One suggestion – go with more than 1 strand of silk thread. At least 2, if not 3 DMC or floche . . .so that your work will be seen. @motherof5 Thoughts?? Have you tried to smock this area of…[Read more]

In keeping with heirloom stitching but not smocking per se, here are few thoughts for those wee pleats I had in mind but will probably never get to do:
Stitches in between the pleats:

@frances-suzanne or other smocksperts (smocking experts!) — I have cut a Music Class blouse and am wondering if I could do a TINY bit of smocking, almost like a very small dot or diamond, in place of the pintucks. I have cut my blouse from a pale grey-on-grey fabric and thought a tiny pop of color would be pretty. I wish I’d thought of it before…[Read more]

I could’ve sworn I’ve seen this, perhaps not for the Everyday Skirt, but I can’t recall where. If I remember, I’ll pop up a link for you. How about using this:
I think if you wanted it to be from fabric, you could add a seam allowance (maybe 1/4″) cut two…[Read more]

Most schools in Ontario (Canada) go back after Labour Day on September 6th.
We call the Labour Day long weekend, “Bad Furniture Weekend” because that’s when the highways are full of parents driving their kids off to college towing some fairly horrid looking furniture for residence.

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Coverstitch Machine? in the forum off topic 8 years ago
@purplevann1 if you really only want to hem t-shirts then my suggestion is to get familiar with a twin needle and woolly nylon. It will be almost free compared to coverstitch, dead easy to change thread colour and saves having to store another machine.
Or buy yourself something shiny 🙂 - Load More
