Is it a true double-faced fabric? Because if it is, you can separate the fabric at the edges and tuck the edges in between the layers before hand-stitching to finish it. The would allow you to create a fully reversible cape if you don’t mind hand sewing quite a bit. I just did a quick google search and found a couple of tutorials to help…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Skirt packed – Questions in the forum oliver + s: building block dress 9 years ago
Hey Johanna,
Very perceptive questions!
1. I gave you a little extra width in the skirt back placket for “turn of cloth” and because the testers felt it was a bit tricky to sew. It felt safer to have a little extra there, but if you match the crease to the line of stay stitching you’ll be fine.
2. With regard to the difference in width on the…[Read more]

That’s great to hear, @with-love-heidi! My mom made one with a laminate that she’s been using for a long time, too. I need to find time to make one for myself!

I’ve used fusible with good results. I made a wallet with fusible last January and it is still going strong with daily use.

No, it’s fine. I prefer the sew-in interfacing for this project, but if you have fusible and want to use it go ahead. Enjoy!

Sorry, I don’t have dimensions. I’m guessing you might have already come up with something, but I think an obi/kimono-style belt would be adorable with the culottes.

Hi Tara (@4dfamily98)
Would he like them in denim? If so you could try Threadbare fabrics – they have cone denim which is a high quality denim, both rigid and stretch.
Otherwise you could try Fabric.com. They have twill, corduroy and other pant weight fabrics that may be suitable. Samples can be requested which would be helpful.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I’ve just tested this out, and it worked find for me. If you put a shipping address on the left side of the page in the US and a billing address on the right side in another country, the shipping options presented on the following screen are the US shipping options. Perhaps you had the country drop down selection…[Read more]

Tamara replied to the topic Printing PDF Patterns in the forum oliver + s: bubble dress 9 years ago
I understand but in this case, you’d want a 6-12 month size (if baby fits the measurement of course). Some pattern pieces won’t require sticking together in the smaller size range. They are still nested but fit onto the page and it would be say a bodice piece if this were the case.
It will save time should you revisit the pattern later on because…[Read more]

Hi Suzanne @theartsypaul
The PDF patterns are all nested, meaning the sizes are all together as you assemble the pattern. So with this in mind, tracing would be a great option in order to have your size and preserve the pattern for when different sizes are required.
Hope this helps

My eldest preferred hers with buttons at the front.

I know a number of the kids I sew for often end up wearing clothes I’ve made them back to front and it dose not seem to bother them. But I have not made this dress/tunic.

Asmita, you just need to enter the shipping address in the United States on the page where you enter your shipping and billing address.
With the billing address of the card in India, the payment will process for you, and with the shipping address in the US you will get US shipping rates.

Looks like you did it perfectly! A boxy dress with dropped shoulder is going to have a boxy fit. Thus the lines. It’s normal for this style. The dress looks great on you!

That’s the right photo, @joslyn. You can see the full worksheet for the dress on page 20, including a sketch of the skirt on that particular dress–it’s added to an empire waist in this instance.

Tamara replied to the topic Best Resources for Fitting in the forum
Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoHi Deanna
There are some really great classes on Craftsy involving fitting. I have particularly found the classes by Joi Mahon helpful. The reason for this is that even though I have a dressmaker’s dummy to pin my Muslims onto, it doesn’t look like me and of course because of this it turns out totally wrong and fits the dummy not myself.
