Todd Gibson replied to the topic anyone want to hold a sample sale? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
Thanks, everyone, for your interest.
After some discussion today, here’s what we think needs to be done. There are so many samples, almost all are size 3, and most people in the forums aren’t interested in purchasing since they sew for themselves. We think we need to broaden the potential customer base for a sample sale by listing the items on…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Drawstring pants? in the forum oliver + s: after-school 9 years ago
The Sandbox Pants have a drawstring like you’re describing, Emily. Maybe look at those instructions and convert them to the After School? It would certainly be do-able, and the elastic makes it possible to pull the pants on and off without untying…

Nicole replied to the topic Can I use woven bias fabric to bind edge of knit? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
Do you mean an envelope style neck? Where the back comes over the front at the shoulders and opens up to allow dressing?
You can use a woven binding but remember, that it will not be that stretchy so you will need to make sure it will fit over babies head, just with the envelope style opening.
I hope that is some help.

Liesl Gibson started the topic anyone want to hold a sample sale? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
Hello everyone! I have a crazy question and I’m just going to put it out there in case anyone want to take me up on it:
We have a large number of samples left over from pattern development and photo shoots, and I need to clear out some space in the studio. Over the years we’ve talked about holding a sample sale, but our workload is always so big…[Read more]

beachmom replied to the topic Unwanted Fabric. What to do? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
I used to shop unwanted fabric around…asking sewing friends if they were interested, offering it to schools, posting it on freecycle and/or craigslist. But it involved a lot of effort and when I’m ready to get rid of something, I want it gone. Now I drop it off at our local thrift shop.;)

@coastmamaienne
Karen is right, you cut two backs from your main fabric and two from your lining.

I am with @lightningmcstitch on this one. I made my baby girl some wool jersey Hopscotch nighties in the smallest size. Can you imagine how tiny those front yokes were?
I found a good steamy press made them behave long enough to stitch.

Nicole replied to the topic Needle for woven and knit together? in the forum oliver + s: parachute polo + sweatpants 9 years ago
#teamballpointneedle here, I am very particular with needle choice and always use ballpoint needles for knits.
I do agree though, a nice sharp universal for attaching the woven collar would be best.Any blunt needle will cause problems, some you may not be aware of until you wash your garment. I hate those little ‘pull’ marks that can…[Read more]

Nicole replied to the topic How to achieve this look for Garden Party dress? in the forum oliver + s: garden party 9 years ago
I think your fabric choice will be your deciding factor here. If you use a soft draping fabric, the fullness will be lovely.
A quilting cotton may look a bit odd. -
Nicole replied to the topic RTW Alteration? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
@jesims, I alter a lot of ‘Light in the Box’ bridesmaid dresses and this is what works for me.
Place the dress on and pin out the excess in long French darts, take of the dress and tailors chalk the edges of the pinned section on the inside. Baste the darts in and try on again.
This can be very effective and means you have not cut away any…[Read more]

I wonder if this may help, it is not the Tea Party but it shows you how to join flat piping.

juliamom2009 replied to the topic Sketchbook Shorts for Girls – Sizing? in the forum oliver + s: sketchbook 9 years ago
So I finally ordered the pattern – I got the smaller size that her measurements actually correspond to rather than being cheap and trying to alter a size 5 so I have the pattern until she gets to middle school! I’m going to make a version in some very lovely green and white seersucker (which I know she will hate!) for size and then go from there.…[Read more]
