How big are they? if you sewed them together (maybe with a strip of canvas or denim to back) they would make a cool strap for a bag or overalls, or on a work apron.
or you could put them on a pilot’s cap. -
Reeni replied to the topic what can I make for myself with a yard of 60" velvet? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
I made a t-shirt-like boatneck top with 3/4 sleeves, no closures or facings to conserve fabric… it was a situation where I wanted something to wear out to dinner the next night with some high school friends. It’s still very cold here in NY and the LES builds up some fierce tunnel winds! Velvet top and wool flannel pants let me enjoy fried…[Read more]

is there a pattern you like for a top that uses only a yard of 60″ woven? I bought some royal purple velvet for a great price with no pattern in mind… my problem is that I’m a size 14-16 depending on the style, I guess I don’t sew enough for myself to realize I need more fabric!

interesting, perhaps it stabilizes the wool so it doesn’t lose its shape? I wonder if that makes it stiffer, and if what they use to stick them together affects how to clean the project.
I’m thinking ideal for a messenger bag or clutch to test it… then if it holds up, a garment. -

I’d do the 18-24 mo tulip sleeve, because it attaches to the shoulder… the difference between the sizes in the sleeve piece is about 1/4 inch, so a little more or little less on the overlap should not be obvious.

I would make the 2T. If she feels awkward with the shoulders too big, (sometimes we forget that the actual wearer’s comfort is the most important!:D) you could make some discreet vertical tucks along the shoulder line to pull it in a bit for now… most children start getting long without gaining breadth around this time, so she can grow into the…[Read more]

Reeni replied to the topic Most and Least Worn O+S Outfit? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 9 years ago
Dd’s most worn by far are the two circle-skirt long dresses based on Fairy Tale (who would have thunk). She has worn what she calls her tea dress at least 3 weeks out of 4 when she comes home from being in her school uniform… and the drop-waist version has shown up over/under other things when she should be in pants from the cold!
I’m glad…[Read more] -

i would only do french seams in the sleeve attachment if you are lining the bodice and skirt… basically the lining is like a second dress on the inside.

oh durrr, you could also use the Garden Party pattern as a jumping-off point, just without the gathers in the bodice.

i was able to zoom in on the Sears pic and it looks like it is a curved band that wraps completely around to take the place of a cap sleeve, gathered/pinched in the front. [I was in love with a version of this for my senior high school ball, but it did not turn out at all. :(]
I think the best candidate for modifying into this is the Croquet…[Read more] -

I think the biggest issue with sewing on buttons is the choking hazard if they come loose? At least that is the reasoning I have heard for why baby clothes should have snaps that will not budge easily.
I use resin snaps and snap pliers — did not have luck with the tubey setting tool or pliers by Dritz and ring-type snaps at all. -

On seeing the bride’s dress, would you consider doing a flutter-sleeve Library Dress with the front in a v? you could even finely pleat the fabric like the bride’s bodice if you have the patience, or do the dense-on-the-sides, less-in-the-middle flowers on the waist… like cut them out of the voile and re-embroider them overlapping on the band.
