Hi! I would suggest doing a dirndl skirt, and just combine it with the rest of the building block parts! The dirndl skirt simply uses a rectangle piece of fabric, so you can keep the hem on the straight of grain. Here’s a tutorial: http://blog.megannielsen.com/2009/04/how-to-make-a-dirndl-skirt/
Or, even better, Leisl’s Lazy days skirt pat…[Read more]

rebecca replied to the topic best fabric store for "minimalist fabrics"?? in the forum off topic 7 years ago
@liesl yes! That’s what I need. Someone who has discipline, so I can simply glean from their beautiful choices. Thanks for the suggestion.
@motherof5 my hope is that the more I see with high-quality beautiful fabric, the more I’ll abstain from the “junk food”. But first I have to find the shops that don’t sell the junk. 😀🤔

Oh,no … I have zero self-control. It’s pathetic. I have to avoid!! I’ve just not gone to the shops in a while because I’m terrible! Maybe someday?? 🤣

I have a problem … I can’t resist all the beautiful, brightly colored fabrics. I love them and buy them. But, I don’t wear them and don’t sew with them. What I REALLY like to wear are simple stripes, solids, geometric prints – usually in neutral colors (navy, black, white, with orange being my favorite accent). If I do color, only 2-tone pri…[Read more]

You know … i have the same situation!! Exactly. So, I’m curious to the answer too. I finally wondered if tje measurement is *outside* the box; from outer line to outer line. Anyway … sort of grateful I’m not the only one who noticed. Curious to hear!

Wow. *muslin draft. Auto-correct not always helpful ok these iPhones.

Ugh. So frustrating when that happens!! It’s happened to me. The best I can suggest is to look at the “finished garment” measurements and see what size is best for your body, plus ease. And sew and Muslim draft — to get the right fit.

I haven’t purchased directly, by my mentor (Lynda Maynard) suggests Sarah Veblen’s store for any fabrics that need an exact color on any weave of silk. (You may not be looking for silk, of course). She can match the color into any type of silk. Here’s the site, in case it works for you: http://www.sarahveblen.com/silks.php

rebecca replied to the topic @Todd – search function not working on Safari (?) in the forum off topic 8 years ago
Oops; right when I hit post, I realized that it’s the plug-in my husband installed (Ghostery); I cleared the “google search” and it’s working again. 😀

@Todd — Hello, for at least a week, each time I go to search for something on the site (in the upper-left corner box), it shows up empty. Most recently, I just tried “tunic.” It works in Chrome, so not sure why not in Safari (my default web browser).
I’ve attached an image.
Is there something I need to do, to see the results?

rebecca replied to the topic Please help — how do I lengthen *only* the back rise?? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 8 years ago
Oh, yes — and if it’s a size 5 in front, she says “the front is too dangly!!” meaning, she pushes the waist to where it’s comfortable, which pushes the pants/shorts crotch really low down.
If I make a size 4, front is *perfect* (and width/length!), but the back doesn’t cover the necessary bits. :/ And then she’s walking around, always trying to…[Read more]

rebecca started the topic Please help — how do I lengthen *only* the back rise?? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 8 years ago
My daughter has a long torso, which poses a problem when making pants… Height-wise, she is 44″ (size 5, in O&S size chart), however her waist/hip width and leg length is a 4. So, a size 4 is right, except for the rise…
So, because of her long torso, it makes the top-back of pants not high enough (not covering her bits). The front, however is the…[Read more]

I’d love to sew for my husband, as he is very hard to fit (barrel-chested), but short.
I’d make him more jeans and dress shirts, but i’m happy for any Liesl pattern!

@motherof5 I think you have the Bernina 950? I’m considering to buy one that is used; I already have a Bernina active 125 (15 years old, household Bernina). I just want something *faster*, but not super interested in an industrial straight-stitch only. I like the Bernina semi-industrial, because it still has zig zag!
Do you have a household…[Read more]

Thanks, y’all! I am genuinely surprised how hard it is to find! I found this one: http://www.fashion-school.com.au/products/pattern-makinggrading-ruler/ , in case anyone else is on the hunt. I do love the combo inches/metric option — thanks for all the suggestions!!

Hello, to all those to whom metric is the norm! I’m going nuts trying to find a metric ruler for my pattern alterations. I’m exhausted of the conversion of fractions to decimals and back again, and I’d like to just find a lovely metric c-thru ruler.
However, I’m stumped as to where to find one. I’m hoping the lovely Oliver & S groupies that are…[Read more]

@lightningmcstitch Okay, funny that after I made this post, I came across your blog (in my internet searches) and then subscribed to your blog, for the same post you mentioned. 🙂
