I have been sewing like crazy the last few days. I made a tiny Geranium dress for my due-in-July niece. That was my first time working with that pattern and I was really bummed when I got to the end and saw that there was no overlap for the buttons, so the skirt sort of bunches underneath them. I had expected something like the Bubble Dress.…[Read more]

You’ve nailed it re the paper situation @todd. First time I asked the local print shop (franchise of a well known chain) they looked blank. Suggested printing sideways on A0 and taping two sheets together.
Second time I asked they recognised existence of 36″ rolls but said they didn’t stock them.
A year later, with new management, they now stock…[Read more] -
Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Need more booty room in the after school pants! in the forum oliver + s: after-school 10 years ago
I read this post just today and I think it might help. It is mostly referring to increasing room in the front crotch but as they say at the end, if you do the same split and spread to the back that works for the back.
I imagine if you create a bit more room at the back there’ll be less strain and pulling down with squatting and bending.
But gee…[Read more] -

@todd that’s fabulous news about the paper size change/addition. now I just have to work out how to split PDF files so that I can put all my large pattern sheets into one file. The local printer has a $15 per job minimum so printing one file would still be too expensive.
far be it for me to pick an argument 🙂 but I’m afraid the list of countries…[Read more]

I’m due late May – just about nine weeks left. The time is just speeding by. I am impressed with your ability to sew post-baby, Tamara. I am expecting not to have any time to do so in the first few months at least!

Third-trimester insomnia has kicked in. I crept out of bed at 11:30 and spent an hour and a half sewing a teeny Geranium dress for my sister-in-law’s baby-girl-due-in-July. Unsure how I want to trim it, though, so I am heading back to bed. If anyone is around, feel free to take a peek and give me a suggestion! Three photos, set starts here:…[Read more]

I assume double-faced gauze is the same as double gauze, but as I’ve never bought one of the fabrics labeled the latter I can’t confirm. The trouble with it is that although it’s not knit, its loose weave and the fact that it is two layers of fabric tacked together here and there, make it unrelentingly shifty under the presser foot. I should…[Read more]

Masha Richart replied to the topic Comparing sizing to RTW? in the forum oliver + s: sunny day shorts 10 years ago
In general I have found O+S patterns to be a tad bigger than ready-to-wear. The only Sunny Day Shorts I have made were in a size 2T and that was the case there. I don’t think they are so much bigger that you have to make a size up, though. Just a little roomier. The key would be the waist measurement for the elastic, and since you have those I…[Read more]

If you have the Village Frock I am definitely interested! Possibly in Bedtime Story and Ice Cream too depending on size.

Finished the layette bodysuit; thanks for the push Tamara! I think it will be very comfortable for the baby as it is made of double-faced gauze that was a major pain in the patoot to sew. Major. But it’s all done and maybe tomorrow I will finish the pants. Check!

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Alterations: How to lower front waistband (& keep back high), w/o changing hem grain line? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 10 years ago
I second the After School as definitely worth a go. The back yoke on those is fabulous for giving sufficiently high back coverage. So much so that I’ve used the back half of those mashed to other pants fronts.
I imagine if you use a yoke, like Nature Walk, you can shape that how you like, then add a straight hemmed skirt underneath. - Load More
