You are both brilliantly brave for talking about what is affecting you, I hope you find some respite and joy soon. I am definitely a believer in trying to find the time and space to do a little of what you love, so sorting sewing space is a must. Good luck both of you. Helena

  • We are having a very nontraditional Easter.

When my husband and I married 3 years ago he joked that he wanted a Jeroboam of champagne for a dowry. My parents only went and bought one. I was pregnant when we married so we were saving it until I wasn’t pregnant or breastfeeding. Two babies later and I’m still breastfeeding but we’re worried…[Read more]

  • Oooh, hopefully in time for me to be gifted them for my birthday, and leaving time for me to make anything for my girls for their holiday wardrobe. Excellent!

That’s it, politeness be damned, I adore the fairy take dress and while I think it will be a bit small for Lady E, it will fit M next year. So I would love that if it’s ok. I can send postage and I would love to send you some fabric.

It is indeed a front loader. I love the approach of saying what you see, it’s completely beguiling. Well, it is until she says something really embarrassing in public, then I won’t like it quite so much!

I am thinking that next time she asks ‘Me watch Peppa Pig on the television?’ I might wilfully mishear it as ‘Me wash Peppa Pig in the…[Read more]

Last night my nearly 2.5yo shadow was ‘helping’ with some chores. She got very animated, asking ‘Me put the sugar in the washyvision Mummy?’. It took her running away and returning with her beloved Frozen pants to understand that she wanted to put the powder in the washing machine to wash them. I love washyvision.

I my grungetastic youth it was quite the vogue to have an old army khaki green messenger bag with patches sewn on it so I’m with Brittney. I also think the explorer best with patches would be very cool.

  • (With apologies for the tangent…) I have been thinking that it would be brilliant to see a map with who lives where and sews o+s on it. Not exact locations, maybe counties or something. I think it’s really interesting seeing people pop up from other countries (India and Malaysia recently) and I am also really interested about who is close to…[Read more]

  • dubhels2003 started the topic Bonded fabric in the forum off topic 9 years ago

I keep seeing bonded fabrics around. What kind of projects would these be really good for? I’m fascinated by the idea of ‘two-for-one’ and how you might be able to use it without lining. I guess on a basic level it might just remove the need for a lining. I’m interested in what could be done with it, I’d love to hear…[Read more]

I think that tulle is the type of fabric, i.e. a net like fabric. You can definitely get in made of different things, so silk tulle is the kind of fabric used on dreamy romantic wedding dresses. It feels soft and is expensive http://www.topfabric.co.uk/soft-silk-tulle-nude.html

You can get other types of tulle which are cheaper (and I suspect…[Read more]

  • I think I’m a bit new to oliver +s to play this game, but here goes anyway. Most worn are class picnics, and baby number two (5 months) is today wearing these sailboat trousers which got heaps of wear first time round, and will certainly do so again.

    Sailboat Trousers

Worryingly they are size 12-18 months.…[Read more]

  • Hi Erin, I started my oliver + s sewing with a 3 month old and started with the school photo dress, which actually was fine when she started crawling as it is quite fitted and she is long so it never caught. It was the same with the hopscotch dress and the seashore sundress, that was fine. The bigger problem I encountered was that she put…[Read more]

@Todd This post had me thinking, is there going to be another ‘Ask Liesl’ blog posting? I was wondering which patterns surprised Liesl with their popularity or unpopularity? Which pattern has resulted in incredible interpretations which have changed her vision of what the pattern was in the first place? That’s so poorly worded, sorry, I am…[Read more]

I share your frustration about the lack of physical stores which sell non-mainstream patterns, especially as I live ‘ooop north’ and many of the online stores I buy from have physical stores down south. There are a number of online stores which have it in stock besides Eternal Maker and Backstitch – Village Haberdashery, Fabrimake, Fabric Godmother.

  • dubhels2003 replied to the topic Out of print in the forum oliver + s: fairy tale 9 years ago

@Yirg You might be able to buy a copy from a store, for exmple in the UK the smaller size in paper is available here http://www.eternalmaker.com/fairy-tale-dress-pattern-oliver-s

I’ll definitely be buying it in the smaller size in paper now I know that it’s not being reprinted!

  • Linda, another little one for you to sew for! In both my pregnancies I had low iron during and after birth. I loved sweet potato mashed with ginger and then fried up with steamed broccoli and wilted spinach and steak with soy sauce with a half of guinness on the side. Yumyumyum. Also chilli tofu with noodles, I *think tofu has plenty of iron in it…[Read more]
