dubhels2003 replied to the topic Getting iron into your diet in the forum Cooking and Baking 9 years ago
Linda, another little one for you to sew for! In both my pregnancies I had low iron during and after birth. I loved sweet potato mashed with ginger and then fried up with steamed broccoli and wilted spinach and steak with spot sauce with a half of guinness on the side. Yumyumyum. Also chilli tofu with noodles, I *think tofu had plenty of iron in…[Read more]

That’s really interesting, thank you. I go to Bradford in the UK which has lots of Indian fabric (and food!) Shops. I am in love with the beautiful bright fabrics, especially the reds and pinks.

Thank you all, you are like the good sewing angels sitting by my right ear telling me to be patient and test things rather than jumping straight in and ruining my special fabric!
I am going to play around with the pattern and try both using the family reunion dress and also a version playing with the existing pattern to see what happens… I hope…[Read more]

You’re no fun with the sensible-muslin-talk-that-I-know-is-right-but-don’t-want-to-do-but-will-now 😉
On a serious note thank you, I’ll extend and see what it looks like. I was aiming for something like 6 inches, based on the blouse she already has and measuring down to her knees-ish.

I’m planning to extend the blouse into more of an a-line tunic/dress to wear over leggings. Any advice on how to do this would be much appreciated. I think if I simply extend it at the bottom it will be too wide. Does this mean I have to slice it either across or downwards and lengthen and make narrower? Or am I over complicating it and I…[Read more]

Thank you @vothgirl, I’ve found it. My most viewed is a class picnic blouse. The picture isn’t great, and was a snap my husband took on his phone. The blouse is lovely, and is probably the most work o+s item I have made (so far…) but I don’t really know why it tops the view (in the small 100s not 1000s!!).
The item with the most favourites…[Read more]

Interesting topic. How do you look at stats on Flickr, other than by checking each individual picture? Off the top of my head I think mines a not brilliant picture taken on my husband’s iPhone. I wonder what role the description and title play in increasing traffic too.

Aaaargh, the irritation of discovering that you forgot to change your stitch length back between basting and sewing. Now to go and unpick a well colour matched thread on a moderately loosely woven linen/cotton blend, all to be packed in while the babe has her first ever over an hour nap in her crib without being latched on…. quick, come here…[Read more]

My husband kindly gifted me some fabric from this line, out arrived yesterday. It will be kiddy wear and some for quilting. Totally banking on my siblings having kids to hand some of my makes on to!

This year I am going to continue to focus on the quality of what I make. I started doing that this year and my sewing is improving no end.
I am going to find my teenage me and embrace having a go at sewing for me. I didn’t care about how complicated the pattern was I would try it and wear it, pretty much regardless of what the end product was…[Read more]

Oooh, thank you @JWo, that looks good, there are some lovely colours of cord.
I’m also going to get some samples from https://www.myfabrics.co.uk/cotton-jersey-medium.html
I have no idea what it’s like, but it does at least tell me the fabric composition.

A fabric gift is pretty much my dream gift, lucky you! I just use a fine needle and guterman, I’ll be interested to know what anyone else uses.
@justsewit Really looking forward to seeing your little arrival in her new and beautiful clobber!

dubhels2003 replied to the topic What size "scraps" do you keep? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
I pretty much keep everything except teeny weeny scraps and small bits of knit fabric, but that’s going to have stop! In terms of what you can use them for, even if you can’t get a whole o+s pattern out of a piece you can often use the fabric for facings and binding.
I have two sweet jars of really small scraps I can use for quilting, or my…[Read more]

Hello, I’m wondering if any UK residents have any online shops they can recommend for buying decent plain knits for leggings? I prefer to touch and feel but I can’t buy decent knits where I live, and there’s no chance of going further afield at the mo. I am also after a sweatshirt knit. I’ve bought patterned knit fabrics from various online…[Read more]

They’re brilliant, i’m especially loving the cowboy outfit, complete with cowboy stance. Is this the start of an addiction to vintage patterns?
