Slightly off topic but after 3 years of aggravation I have had my overlocker/coverstitch serviced and set to purely a coverstitch.

I really, really wish I had just gone with a coverstitch in the first place.

I don’t bother ironing knits before cutting (in fact I try not to iron anything ever, but that’s me) as it just seems to make the edges curl even more. I have a new nappy bag which has lots of mesh pockets on space dividers, it is fab as I can separate but see the contents.

That sounds about right to me!

Knits may be quick to sew but to get a quality looking garment you have to put in the time to get the grain straight and the fabric smooth.

I like to lay my fabric out a few hours before cutting to let it relax and re shape. Ball point pins are great as is using a combination of pins and weights.

Just a thought, my girls are older still, 15, but Empire line is very fashionable for their age group.
I actually hunted down a Laura Ashley pattern that has a similar feel to the Garden Party as they both loved the look.

The Birthday Party facing is a clever ‘wrap around it self’ type facing so you would need to be aware of that.
