  • I have just re-stocked and paid between $8 and $12.95 a metre.
I am not a student but I can understand how that my seem a lot if you are watching your budget.
The more sewing I did,I found I wanted the best quality notions to make my garments look as good as possible for as long as possible.
I am very miserly and save all my scraps for shoulder…[Read more]

  • I like to use lightweight woven interfacing that is iron on. I get it from Farmhouse fabrics and it is called “German” or “baby” interfacing. I’ve been using it ever since I first started with the smocking over 10 years ago and even though it would seem only useful for heirloom sewing I have had huge success carrying it over into the regular…[Read more]

  • Do try it, Sandi, and show us how it’s done!

  • You could overlock, turn and topstitch,Or make a narrow band(ribbing) or bind it with the same fabric?
    Good luck Sandi.xn

So have you made your decision? Sounds like it from the excitement in your voice. My overlocker doesn’t have coverstitch but my mum has one that has been sitting in it’s box with coverstitch (she’s too scared to get it out). I was actually quite envious until I’ve been reading all these posts about how inconvenient a combo machine can be. I think…[Read more]

I bought the combo Suse(rather hubby bought it for me),big mistake-royal pain in the bum to swap over!
A small tip,my cover stitch doesn’t like fat seams,so when I hem I fold the side seam in opposite directions above and below the seam(twist it),so that I am stitching one seam layer instead of double. It presses up nicely.
Yours may not have that…[Read more]

I have one of the Janome CoverPro machines and really like it. I don’t like the combined serger/coverstitch machines because it’s a huge pain to switch back and forth and, quite frankly, I don’t think you save much money compared to having two separate machines. I like to have all three machines (coverstitch, serger, sewing machine) lined up on my…[Read more]

I received my latest patterns today Amy! Thank you so much! (& I completely understand the economics of it all – I still try to use Australian sites as much as possible – and as much as my credit card allows!)

Amy, I’m sorry the economics have been so difficult. I know it’s not any consolation, but I think many online retailers are struggling right now, and dealing with currency fluctuations doesn’t help. Thank you so much for all the support you’ve given O+S, and I’m glad you’ll still be here on the forums with us.

Hi Sandi – usual price here is between $25 & $27AU (+ P/P), so you can see why I was excited by Amy’s sale prices! (Although sad too, as she is no longer going to be selling O+S patterns – they’re not that widely available here.)

  • Hi – just wanted to let everyone in Australia (well, everywhere I guess!) that Amy/badskirt’s got all her O+S patterns on sale for $16 (why, oh why did I just check her blog!)- she’s even got some Playdate’s left!

  • Oh, fun! Here is an old blog post about places I recommend. I need to update it and will try to do so very soon:

Note that Purl has moved to a fantastic new location since I wrote this. And have a great trip!

I am finishing up 3 pair of sailboat pants in denim for the older girls. After that , I have 3 brunch jackets to make.
My next pattern to draft is the brunch jacket in size 5 for Liddy, then cut out 2 for her. I will be making one in a pinwale cord rose pink with a brown floral, the other I am not too sure! She is quite keen on some lilac pinwale…[Read more]

  • I’m glad you like that style! I agree that it would look great in larger sizes.
Unfortunately, at this point we don’t have plans to re-print backlisted styles in larger sizes, but as we release new patterns we’ll continue to offer them in the expanded size range. We’ve got some terrific patterns in the works, so stay tuned and I’m sure you’ll find…[Read more]
