I made this shirt for my daughter http://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/7948860068/in/photostream/

I used the Sketchbook shirt collar and sandwiched it between the facing.

Our Biggies had a New Years Eve party and I think we may make a tradition of that. They had a lot of fun and so did Jed and I.
Happy New Years, sweet sewing friends!

Size 6-12m Seashore sundress, Sunday Brunch Jacket and Tea Party Bloomers from 1.55m of 110cm pinwale courduroy. I did fold half the fabric both sides to the middle to get the extra folds needed because a number of pieces need to be cut on the fold. I also cut the seashore dress facing/lining pieces from contrasting fabric as well as any bias…[Read more]

I have a woolen blanket folded double under my ironing board cover to prevent the waffle pattern and give me a more padded surface. I picked this trick up from my grandfather who would put a doubled up wool blanket straight on the dining room table to do his ironing!

Now I have to re-look at them….I think the couture sewing techniques will really teach me more than the basics, but I don’t wear dresses ever (jeans and t-shirts for me!). The knit t-shirt one looks good, but I can’t imagine 9 lessons to make a t-shirt….but, that’s something I may actually make myself and wear. Thanks guys for your opinions!

Yes the couture sewing techniques class looks great doesn’t it. I already have the pattern so I am wondering if the option for the pattern could be disabled.
I try and look for the classes when they are on sale as some can be rather expensive. It evens out with all the viewing time though I guess.
I have sewing big quilts on small machines and she…[Read more] -

I’ve not gone through the whole class but I learned more in the first 10 minutes of the couture sewing class with Susan Khaljie (sp?) than I ever knew about sewing. Many of the techniques are not ones that I use on a regular basis – it is couture after all – but just watching her work is fascinating to me. There is also a Sew-Along knit class that…[Read more]

Are you using corduroy? I have found with making them in corduroy that if I sew from the pants top instead of from the leg cuff I stand a better chance of them meeting up with just a slight trimming of less than a quarter inch. I suggest pinning closer and more often to help with the wriggling from the corduroy – that is if of course you are using…[Read more]
