I love those plaid culottes! I’ve alwasy liked Jean Paul Gautier:-). I’ve got a few old suit jackets…might have to cut ’em up for culottes for the boy.

These concerns are one of the reasons I started sewing for my little guy. I often re-use adult clothing to make his little pants and shirts. I just cut out a pair of After School pants for him using an old pair of his dad’s jeans and a repurposed jumper (dress, not sweater) from the thrift store for the accent pieces.
Liesl talked about these…[Read more]

Oh that’s a good idea! I could cover the messy seam with ribbon or webbing.
Don’t give up on fleece. It’s actually pretty awesome. But since this pattern wasn’t designed for fleece, it didn’t work quite as well.
I’ll definitely try the new Parachute pants in fleece.

The problem with the collar was that the fleece won’t hold a crease and basting stitches don’t help much. So, I couldn’t do as the instructions stated and pre-clip and crease the collar. Thus, trying to turn under the collar raw edge and get it to cover the seam where the undercollar joins the back neck was really tough. I think had I done that…[Read more]

I finished up a fleece version today. It’s … ok. I messed up the collar. I was going to do it in quilting cotton on the inside not fleece, but I totally forgot when cutting out the fabric and the two layers of fleece are a bit awkward. The collar was hard to sew on properly. And picking out stitches in fleece is a bear! Not worth it, especially…[Read more]

My older girls are 11 and 15. My teen wears adult sizes; my 11 year old can wear some O+S –I’ve made her pj pants with the Sleepove pjs.
Sailboat! That’s one I don’t have – I was scared of the buttonholes, but I have conquered them on my machine, so I should try it.
Any ideas for how to do a prince charming type costume?

We’ll be going to Disneyland to celebrate my husband’s birthday in October. I thought it would be fun to make some costumes for my son (and daughters, too, if they want, but they’re pretty much aged out of O+S), so he could really feel the Disney magic.
Any tips on what patterns I could hack to make some costumes? Costume ideas?

I’ve told myself I can’t get Parachute until I sew up the five cut-out and ready to sew items on my sewing pile. 🙂

Ah, I hadn’t even thought about the knit vs. woven issue. See, this is why I ask before I cut!

It’s not that I don’t want to sew with wool, but I have a messy 2 year old and I have a ton of fleece on hand.
Wondering how the sewing went making it with fleece, any tips welcome, so I can get off to a good start.
Thanks!

Oooh, love that railroad denim! My little guy loves trains too, so bonus. I may need to do a fabric.com order…
I traced my After School pattern today in 2T; won’t have a chance to get fabric or sew until after spring break/Easter week, but at least I got the finicky part done.

Yup, Easter is this weekend and for our kids, it’s Spring Break! We’ll take a scenic driving road trip as we usually do. I love a good road trip.
I had big plans of sewing Easter baskets for each of the kids, since we’ll be on the road for Easter itself. Sewing costumes for the Comic Convention got in the way of that though.
My kids love the…[Read more]

The Afterschool ones are super cute. I think that’s the look I am going for. Will try it and report back.
Now to find some denim that’s not too stiff for an active little boy…maybe some stretch!
