So this has become the inspiration dress: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/76420524903361892/ I ran up a muslin this weekend because I needed to draft sleeves so I could best make use of the eyelet border. Also, I lowered the neckline of my base pattern to match the inspiration dress. I just ordered silk charmeuse for the sash. I might line it…[Read more]

meleliza replied to the topic FBA bust darts on Gallery Tunic in the forum liesl + co: gallery tunic + dress 9 years ago
If you think they’re too long, go with it and shorten them. You probably don’t want to make them wider to compensate. Try to curve the ends of the dart slightly inward starting about 1/2″ from the end of the dart.
You know, all the “rules” say that you have to end the dart further away the larger your bust is. I disagree. The larger the dart, the…[Read more]

measure your high bust and your full bust. If there is more than 2″ difference, using your high bust will help you get the correct fit in the shoulders and over all bodice. So if your high bust is 34″ but your full bust is 38″, you want to pick the pattern bust size 34. Then, you add width and length to accommodate the bust fullness.
It all takes…[Read more]

I received my city stroll skirt in the mail. It made me so happy to have my actual hands on an actual piece of tissue that I can actually use right away! Just so everyone knows – it is the same high quality production we know from the Oliver + S patterns.

if your fabric doesn’t hold a press well, you might need to pin a lot yes. But you might also try pressing without steam.

meleliza replied to the topic French seam on gathered sleeve? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 9 years ago
I do it all the time. However, on a really very poofy sleeve, it can get too bulky. What pattern are you working with?
As for tips, it’s not that much different than a regular French seam. I tend to use a lot of hand basting when I set sleeves, particularly tiny ones. I also feel I get a better finish with French seams when they’re set in the…[Read more]

I absolutely love my gallery tunic, but I have the same reservations on the dress length. I love the tunic with skinny pants and shorts to balance out the loose ness. There are very good instructions on full bust adjustments.
The city stroll skirt is awesome. It’s fun to be a little short. Admittedly, I got to test it and wore it all winter long…[Read more]

I just had a quick look at the pattern and I don’t see why the pattern instructions wouldn’t be the best way. The hem is only a little curved. turn it half an inch, then another 1 1/2 and ease in the fullness where it curved. It will be just fine.

Yes, same wedding. I don’t go to many! I will try to make something for myself, but it really is the busy time of year. I’m really tempted to re-do the floral dress above in the beige lace. I wouldn’t have to work too hard because I’ve already done the fitting.

Yes, that’s me. But, I wore that to the bridal shower. I do have this one: https://www.flickr.com/photos/24264063@N05/8590474519/in/dateposted-public/ but it feels slightly dated to me in person. I’m tempted to make the same pattern in lace. Maybe add cap sleeves.

That is a long train ride for dressy clothes for sure. We will have to drive from our hotel with all our luggage, as everyone is expected to spend the night at the wedding hotel. Irish weddings last all night long! It’s only a 20min drive, though, I think.
No, I don’t feel like I have to make it. And I’m open to things already in my closet with…[Read more]

Of course you wouldn’t wear those shoes in the grass or mud! Who would expect you to?
Did you decide what to wear? I have the Irish wedding at the end of June and while the flower girls dress is all planned out, I have absolutely no idea what I want to wear! Any thoughts would be appreciated. comfort is not my #1 priority. I want something…[Read more]

meleliza replied to the topic Favorite TV Show to watch while handsewing in the forum off topic 9 years ago
I only watch reruns when I’m sewing because I’m really just listening and not watching. It needs to be something that captures enough of my attention that I don’t wander off thinking about a million things, but not so interesting that it distracts me from what I’m doing. I was binge watching ghost whisperer, now I’m on Charmed. I may do desperate…[Read more]
