I had an intersting and rather scary journey home from spending the weekend in the city with my daughter who is away at school.

I was travelling home with the two younger children and the car started wobbling like crazy!

I managed to wobble into a town which is on the way home and discovered that my front passenger side wheel was hanging on by…[Read more]

Oooh that sounds lovely Nicole @motherof5!

I just finished a denim jacket each for my two girls. We’re all thrilled (yes even the baby!)

I am just finishing some black jeans for myself – waistband topstitching and hems to go.

I took a basket of half mades to Perth with me and didn’t get much done so I am catching up.

@cammipatterson welcome! So glad you introduced yourself. It is great to read a bit about everyone and their story.

Please show us the metro t shirt dresses when you’ve made them so we can all celebrate your efforts. It is nice to have a visual record for future reference too.

Looking forward to reading about what you are sewing.

  • Hi @cammipatterson what a great starting project!

I haven’t made an above the knee t shirt dress but I have used the metro pattern to make a t shirt maxi dress for my teenage daughter.

What I did was measure where she wanted her dress to finish and then I made the adjustment to the pattern by adding the amount of length and cutting through the…[Read more]

Agreed! I have to go back and search for that sailboat top… But yes you certainly are correct, who knew that pockets would be perfect to smock on? Gathering gives the clue.

And of course there are more than just the counterchange and geometric/ English smocking.

I haven’t yet tried using ribbon but want to one day.

@sewgirl23 if you look at the line of the style of garment, it will give you an indication of where the smocking can go. I have used smocking on the carousel dress, the school photo dress and the school days jacket, not to mention the croquet dress.

For a motif the carousel dress would be perfect. You could also do a picture smocked panel and…[Read more]

  • Hi @kirstylilian whilst my original question has already been answered, I don’t see why you couldn’t contact Oliverands by email regarding your dilemma. I also suspect this question has also been asked before, or was it you? I’m sure I remember reading about this before….

Anyway, if you have the printed pattern, surely there would be some sort…[Read more]

  • Of course they are useful @liesl😀 With six months until our summer, I have plenty of time to collect the items required. But not only that, this sewalong will still be up so I can sewalong then too! It looks like I will be learning new skills with this as in all the years I have been sewing, I have never actually made a swimsuit for myself and…[Read more]

  • Saved the day thanks @todd

  • Not to worry! it’s all good.@sarvi.

  • @sarvi am I able to do that?

    Thankyou🙂

  • Tamara replied to the topic Merino source in the forum off topic 8 years ago

I love merino on the sheep and on me but I feel really sad that this place uses only nz merino wool☹️ .It would be awesome to be totally out of the box and build somesort of refinery to make the fabric myself, but we’d need all the wool in NZ for that (they seem to have more sheep for their population) and a jackpot lotto win (and even then it wou…[Read more]

@lightningmcstitch did you go in person to this place or buy online because I noticed they look as though they ship from NZ.

  • Tamara replied to the topic What are you sewing now? in the forum off topic 8 years ago

    Love the accent fabric @needlewoman.

I spent the afternoon handstitching and both jeans jackets are almost complete😀. I now have to go and hammer seams flat, topstitch, do buttonholes and the more handstitching – the buttons. Fingers crossed I get to do this all tonight.

  • Tamara replied to the topic Sizing question in the forum oliver + s: popover 8 years ago

Yes sew the ties before you make the bow and then wear a t shirt under it if it one of those not recommended to be worn to school kind of dresses. That way you cover all bases.

  • Tamara replied to the topic What are you sewing now? in the forum off topic 8 years ago

Basically there was no marketing per se. I was looking for a heavier weight denim to make my jeans because the stuff was just a bit light and I found two bolts of denim/elastine/wool in the pile of denims. We get a lot of the printed and pintucked stuff and not alot of the stuff that you’d want to make jeans out of. So because I had never seen…[Read more]

  • Judging from what many authors (in general) say about preparing and writing their books (novels etc). It is one mammoth task. September seems so long away but it will be here before you know it. I mean it’s mid year already this year is a flying!

I am looking forward to this book. And thanks for the big hint there @todd😉 It must be very difficult…[Read more]

I can’t decide which is my size
Do I go by my waist or my thighs?
    I could measure my head
    Or my chest instead
Just so long as it has enough rise!

The season for sewing has changed

  • Tamara replied to the topic What are you sewing now? in the forum off topic 8 years ago

    😳 my message disappeared!!!

@cybele727 so glad you “found” the popover.

@motherof5 guess what?! I found some denim/wool blend!!! At my local Spotlight!!! I told the woman at the counter they won the fabric lotto. There were two kinds, one that had this plush look about it almost like corduroy but not and a gold/blue thing happening. The other…[Read more]
