I used shoe laces that I found in Lincraft to thread thru a casing in a kidlet vest; the way the shoe lace is sealed at the end made it very easy to thread/tie the ‘toggle’ on the end, and it copes better with being washed becase hasn’t frayed – so far.

Oh yes, I can totally picture that — so instead the bias trim going ‘over the edge’ as it does now, the raw edge would be turned in — that is doable. I will try it out!

I have made it twice Florabell.
The only concern I would have is the bulk of the seams. If you use a fine fabric and grade the seam properly if would be fine. As the bodice is fully lined, I don’t know that you would actually need to.
We have a few girls that love their French seam finishes. I am sure they would have something helpful to add.

I cut a PlayTime dress size 2T with the length of a size 4 from 1 metre of Kokka linen. AND it was a directional print.
*BUT I had to cut the pockets from another fabric.*

I made a suede version for Tildy and used brass drizabone studs.
I washed that quite a few times in the machine (on a wool wash with shampoo and conditioner) and the suede is still in good repair.

Yes, you can absolutely remove the back seam! We added in rather late in the process because 1) it gives a little more shaping and 2) it allows you to use less fabric because you don’t need to cut on the fold. But by all means, change it! I do add length to the top of the waist band, often I size up. So, yes, I add length.
