@vothgirl with your knitting, they have been pieces haven’t they? So if they have (I know you had at least one) in essence, technically speaking you HAVE been sewing – just with wool and knitting and not in the conventional sense.
Thrilled to hear Ben is coming home – praying he gets home in time. It makes it all the more special for all of you.…[Read more]

Wow it’s been a long time since I last posted! Not sewing anything at the moment as my basement (where my sewing area is) is currently drying out. Last weekend my hot water heater decided to finish completely rusting out and flooded the basement carpet. Fortunately discovered it fairly quickly so we were able to clean up as it leaked. Praying no…[Read more]

I just had to share this one. I hope it translates well into writing as it was very funny to watch.
We had just finished shearing our lambs this afternoon and I brought my 20 month old daughter up to see the last of the action.
Whilst the workers were finishing off writing numbers, baling wool and packing up gear and the sheep were being lead…[Read more]

I will Heidi! Double princess seams is non existent in my pattern stash until now.
I have a few fabrics to choose from but they will team better with indigo denim rather than black.
Black jeans I hope to crack on with today – when I was supposed to take my things to Perth today but I have a child with a contagious disease so I don’t think they’d…[Read more]

@Harmony you have creative pets too? I wish mine would know that black is out of sitting bounds – no matter the project is it’s black…
Which leaves me doomed because I have the black denim laid out to cut a real pair of ginger jeans. I had a 40inch remnant and a 1.5 yard piece of cone indigo denim that I was really wanting to use but with all…[Read more]

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Frozen Fever Anna – Halloween in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 8 years ago
@caraskates I searched for the image (frozen ignoramus I’m afraid) and how about this: Music Class blouse, Lazy Days Skirt then a bodice whatsit that laces at the back to go over the top.
Then you’ve got separates that are wearable as everyday items and whack in the brooch at the neck and the bodice and you’re instantly Anna.
You could use a…[Read more] -

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Add cotton lace trim to hem and sleeves in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 8 years ago
@kmac0107 Kim, do you mind if the trim shows on the reverse side?
If you don’t then it would be as simple as turning up the hem allowance, pinning the trim to the underside then stitching it on while stitching the hem.
If you want to go fancier…. You could try the following:
Trim off any hem allowance in excess of a 1/2 seam allowance. Line up…[Read more] -

What great value @reeni.
I am onto about my fifth muslin for the ginger jeans – finally caved on that pattern. I think I know what to adjust where in order to get them perfect. Then I can make a cone denim pair and a black pair. The black ones are intended as a show entry but, I think I have just discovered a case of hand foot and mouth disease…[Read more]

Having serious social media withdrawal here – my Ipad is in Ipad icu!
I have almost finished two Jumprope dresses. I have failed three times on making a tailored shirt – fabric mismatched, wonkiness in seams something else went totally askew – I will try again and this time IT. WILL. WORK!!
I have rediscovered why I don’t sew with rayon!

Tamara replied to the topic Please help — how do I lengthen *only* the back rise?? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 8 years ago
Whoops! I forgot to mention that if you did the slash and spread method, you’ll need to even out both seams as the side seam will be effected slightly.
Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

Tamara replied to the topic Please help — how do I lengthen *only* the back rise?? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 8 years ago
Hi Rebecca
This is what I do for my daughters’ pants and also my own.
Firstly I measure from the back centre waist to the inside of the leg where the seam would meet. You can also do this with a pair of pants that already fit her.
Then, because you want to fit only the back not the front, I would calculate the difference between the measurement…[Read more]

Tamara replied to the topic Attaching the collar clarification in the forum oliver + s: sketchbook 8 years ago
Yes this is correct! The yoke is lined but what you do is treat the lining as the underside of the shirt. So, as per the instructions, you pin the undercollar to the shirt with the right side against the outer yoke piece part of the shirt. You pin all the way around and then carefully sew it, being careful not to create little bubbles and puckers…[Read more]

Well the fabric shopping is done and I bought an extra 2 m of the sateen I want to use for my fit and flare dress as an entry for this year’s royal show. I also bought some of another print as inspiration hit me whilst watching “zumbo” and seeing Rachel’s dress. The plan is to use the Upton dress pattern and to use Rachel’s dress as inspiration…[Read more]

Tamara replied to the topic Sketchbook shirt dress? in the forum oliver + s: sketchbook 8 years ago
I think it would be a perfect alternative to the jumprope dress if it wasn’t included in the pattern stash. But at the same time it would be perfect as an alternative shirt dress style. In short, go for it!

I hope so too Heidi! Tomorrow will tell.
I made a “muslin” of a Stylearc shirt but ran out of fabric to “muslin” the sleeve. I think I made it too long so it’s back to the drawing board and having a think.
I am now soldiering on with an already cut out “tailored shirt” to audition this instead. It’s playing it safe but it just might save time to…[Read more]

Looks amazingly cute @with love Heidi.
I bought fabric to make my “day outfit” for the royal and came home to realise that I think I am short by a metre! Oh well I will have to go back in on Tuesday when I’m there next to claim that extra metre. And I will double check the amount of fabric for the other dress I want to use the same pattern…[Read more]

I can’t wait to make it @with love Heidi. It’s a quarter to midnight, the latest I’ve stayed up to sew in ever so long. I have just finished a pair of stylearc Jilly jeans – the best pattern for jeans I’ve made for me so far. I will be using this pattern again for sure. But not right now as I am in need of sleep!
The next project will be for the show.
