Tara @4dfamily98 is he into small adult sizing?
Thread Theory (www.threadtheory.ca) make men’s patterns that tend to be a slimmer “athletic” fit and would probably suit a teenager. They are beautiful patterns and ones that I would rank as “up there with Oliver + S”.
They have just released they’re button down shirt in paper pattern.
But you know…[Read more] -

Thanks @lightningmcstitch and @liesl it makes perfect sense. In fact I found a tutorial that actually pictorially explains it so all I need now is some time to actually implement it. Thanks again and yes pics are on there way too.

Oooh, what a fun puzzle.
I haven’t made or worn a “cold shoulder” top so I can’t help with where the opening should start.
The notches of the sleeve head might be a bit high? Maybe 1/2″ below that.
I also wonder if you shouldn’t then bring the shoulder – the open edge of the shoulder that is, in a little. A similar adjustment to what you do if…[Read more] -

Hi,
My fourteen year old announced to me that she would like me to make her a cold shoulder top to wear for a themed dinner at the end of the month. I have seen one put out by stylearc which looks to her liking. I really would like to use an existing tshirt pattern in my stash, namely the metro which is tried and trued where sewing for the teen is…[Read more] -

I took the children to “railfest” this past weekend, an exhibiton day that is held by the volunteers of the Rail museum in our local capital city. Whilst there we took some time out to play in the small playground before heading home again. My 21 month old hasn’t had a lot to do with playgrounds so was watching some children slightly older than…[Read more]

An Etsy seller based in Montana has 50% off quite a few Oliver + S patterns (nearly all the smaller sizes, but some older ones in there)

Ah, ok then. At least now I’m not thinking I’m uneven 😅
I was up early as my 8 year old and I did mass participation bike ride this morning. Great fun! -

…thought about it more. The difference in length is the side seam below the armhole, right? So its certainly going to have s lower back hem.

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Maritime length of front and back in the forum liesl + co: maritime knit top 8 years ago
…you know I wore mine yesterday but I’m not sure where it sat at the hem. If your muslin is even at the hem and you like it then go for it.

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Maritime length of front and back in the forum liesl + co: maritime knit top 8 years ago
No, the hems won’t be even, or maybe I don’t stand straight! 😃
If you pick the top up by its shoulder seams the back will hang lower. I don’t think its a forward shoulder seam, at least not by the length of the hem difference.
I love the St James knits too. I have a few of their ready to wear Mariniere tops and they last forever. -

I’m also trying to follow what’s happening, and I think the bit that’s throwing me is the bit where doing the FBA changed the size of the sleeve opening — it shouldn’t, I don’t think? Am I misremembering? I made this in both a 10 and an 8, with and without an FBA — I found in the end that although I do a 3/4″ FBA for the Cinema Dress, I liked…[Read more]

I think it would be fine as is Fiona. Volume wise it’s probably about the same as the pumpkin bucket things you can buy.
And remember, everything is bigger in the states, so by the time your bags arrive there they’ll look normal sized! -

Sounds lovely Heidi.
I am still making my Harrison shirt in tencel denim and also my cone denim Gingers are almost complete.
I have Afterschool pants to hem and thread elastic into.
The hot weather is about to hit so I am preparing to sew t shirts, skirts, sundresses and shorts etc for myself and the girls. And I am thinking Christmas….

Tamara replied to the topic adding embroidery details to garments in the forum Heirloom Sewing and Embroidery 8 years ago
Hi Ava, very good questions. There is a stabiliser you can get that washes away. I would use this on the smaller and unlined portions just to stabilise the fabric whilst you embroider – it helps the fabric to not stretch or crinkle to the point of distortion. I think it comes in sheats so you would be able to cut it and baste stitch it under where…[Read more]
