Hello everybody, I want to make some trick/treat bags for two little kids in Portland, Oregon. The oldest, a girl is now 3, and I figure she is old enough to ‘get’ Halloween, (and Christmas, in due season). The baby boy is just one year old but I know his big sister will want to know why he hasn’t got a bag, unless I make two. BUT, as Halloween is not the big deal/industry in Australia as it in the States, I have no idea how big/small the bag should be. I thought I’d use the Drawstring Bag from Little Things etc (my very first pattern from my new book) but the dimensions seem rather large for littles. Can any of you very experienced Halloween mummies or daddies help me out, please? I need to make these suckers asap to get them posted in time. I’m also working on a Halloween quilt for the same reason, but that’s a different story.

I think it would be fine as is Fiona. Volume wise it’s probably about the same as the pumpkin bucket things you can buy.
And remember, everything is bigger in the states, so by the time your bags arrive there they’ll look normal sized!

I’m always surprised at the size of trick-or-treat bags! But then, we never did much trick-or-treating. I think a lot of bags are larger than the pumpkin buckets, so the drawstring bag won’t be too large at all. Yikes.

I think they are a perfect size myself. Not too big or too small.

Thank you all, very much. I really appreciate the advice. LoL, S!! Nearly finished the Halloween quilt; a little more outrageous than I planned but here’s hoping the kids will like, and that it won’t make the parents physically sick.

I want to thank @needlewoman for the idea of using the drawstring bag as a trick-or-treat bag. I was contemplating making a trick-or-treat bag for my kids but was undecided about what tutorial, etc. to follow. But hey! I have this pattern already, and it seams like it would be a reasonable size. Thanks everyone!

You are very welcome, Deanna! One of the many joys of this forum is the inspiration provided/creativity sparked by our discussions. I’ll look forward to seeing your treat bags; I finally traced off the pattern, yesterday. Must get a move on!
