Is there a particular Lisette fabric you’re looking for? I’m not sure if you’re looking for the ones sold originally at JoAnn Fabric, which I think are out of stock, or the most recent collection, Woodland Clearing, which is not part of the Lisette line (but in my opinion has a nicer feel to it, I have tried both).

If it were me, I would do my…[Read more]

  • It’s not a narrow fit, and I think the style of the cut is pretty forgiving. Maybe add a bit to the blouse and a bit to the peplum? I made a 5 for my daughter who’s gotten to be a 6 in height but still a 5 in circumference, and the blouse looks just as nice now, I think.

I think this dress would be lovely in wool, but bear in mind that it is unlined, for one, and a long full dress, too. You’d want to select your wool carefully to be sure it felt nice against your skin, and the dress didn’t feel too heavy or stiff.

Hi, when I shortened the yoke on mine, I removed one inch from the bottom edge of the yoke, and raised the center skirt by a corresponding one inch. To remove fullness I would narrow the center skirt by moving the pattern piece past the fold, so the left and right edges were the same, but there was less width. I’m not sure if that’s the kind of…[Read more]

What is a ‘lounge set’ for children? I am supposed to make one by Friday, but not sure I have ever seen a 6 year old lounge.

  • @todd if sewing for you means I “have to” take a trip to Spain for fittings then yes, I will volunteer. Can’t make any promises about the quality of my work, post-sangria. Might find my husband and daughter suddenly making themselves invaluable as tracers of patterns and stitchers of buttons.

I’m another no-intentional-bra-strapper, and while I keep meaning to buy a different style of bra that will allow me to wear a racerback style (which I actually find very comfortable as well as liking how it looks) I somehow have never gotten around to it, which probably reveals something.

  • Swim trunks that are not board shorts (he has a pair that are a bit more tailored which he loves) and a slim button-up shirt, please!

That’s a good idea — I read much more than I comment, or I get busy but bookmark things for future use — but it must seem like radio silence from the other end!

  • Hm, good question! I assumed as the thread starter you’d have an edit button somewhere, but perhaps I have made an ASS of U and ME as the old saying goes.

May Grey (and its buddy, June Gloom) are weird patches of overcast skies that come along between Spring and Summer here in Los Angeles. You’ve been having a nice time hiking in April, then you lose the blue skies (but oddly enough, not the penetrating heat of the sun — so if you look outside you’ll want to grab a sweater, but then you open your…[Read more]

Those are really nice, I like the cut a lot particularly on the bottoms. That’s something I can wear. I am still looking for the right fabric — and sewing time — but would love to get a pair done by the time May Grey is over in Los Angeles.

  • Tamara, could I suggest editing the title of this thread to read “question about sending private messages” or similar as it appears Leslie might have mistaken this for a private conversation between the two of you.

  • Sarvi replied to the topic Sizing question in the forum oliver + s: popover 8 years ago

Looks like the Popover Dress size chart lists garment measurements rather than body measurements. Looking at the body measurement chart for another pattern, 22.5″ puts you in a size 4 — so it sounds like your cute dress with the size 6 chest can accommodate any surprise growth spurts this summer and perhaps take you through winter as well, with a…[Read more]

I have bought from the Fabric Store and the quality is fabulous. I wonder whether Rockywoods would have anything suitable?

I am most interested! I love seeing how people fix up new homes, and I’m sure your stylish crew will give the new place a fantastic look. How lovely to have a city home in addition, for when you want a change of pace!

Hi Ann, I found this and it seems like it might be useful:

    http://www.afashionablestitch.com/2011/sewalongs/width-alterations-for-pants/

But if anybody has actually done it themselves or knows of a great tip please chime in!

  • Have fun! As I was looking for this pattern, I noticed the 2+2 blouse has ties at the neckline, and one of the views of the Birthday Party has ties at bodice — might like to check those out, you too, Jeb 🙂

    Happy sewing, folks!
