Hi Lisa.
I love love love that pattern and your fabric choice is gorgeous but…. may I suggest you definitely request a sample?
I regularly run the gauntlet of unusual fabric choices but the description does say heavy and there is no mention of apparel at all.
You would also have some pattern matching to do with the plaid.
Also, it is dry clean…[Read more] -

Thank you @needlewoman, she is beyond thrilled.
@ann-maree, I just took my time, and used a very fine sharp needle. Zara would like a peplum top made from the remnant but I told her I need a break before tackling that cloth again.
Thank you!
Trixie was happily playing under my cutting table so I cut out a Butterick Liberty shirt and denim…[Read more]

I finished a pair of Named Alexandrina Peg trousers, for Zara, in velvet backed apparel vinyl. It stretched, it slipped but the finished garment has produced far more joy then is decent for an item of clothing.
Total Rock Star moment.

@cybele727 – I’m curious – are you happy with the way the fabric shop cut it? Because I cut large scale prints that way as well….so I’m wondering if that was a good thing to you or a bad thing…

Ok, thanks everyone! I may go the @sarvi route and kind of wing it a bit – I love the added pockets that Sharon did. School starts in 3 weeks….need to get cracking!

Are you in a warm climate? I made one of my daughters a Seashore dress http://fiveandcounting-motherof5.blogspot.com.au/2011/08/silky-seashore-success.html

Good memory Sarvi.
Yes, that was me and it was so frustrating. I ended up cutting the body to grain and cutting the cuff to the pattern but then interfacing the whole cuff so it was a bit more stable.

juliamom2009 replied to the topic Uniform Fabric Sourcing in the forum off topic 9 years ago
I’m really lucky that I have a great brick and mortar store near me – I went shopping for school uniform fabric there. I bought about 5 different substrates – all manufactured by Robert Kaufman. I have pre-washed all, and they washed up great. One was a twill, one corduroy, one that feels almost like a heavier weight stable knit (suitable for a…[Read more]

I did join now and it says something about the group being searchable but members and posts are only visible to members. Or something to that effect.
Thanks!
@justsewit yeah, Tamara, I’m more of a Facebook reader than poster – I do belong to several sewing groups…some informative, some drama (which I then leave). A good way to learn new…[Read more]

You may want to consider changing your group from “Public” to “Closed” – personally, I don’t need my non-sewing (like work, basketball, soccer etc.) friends seeing my posts/comments in sewing groups….not that there’s anything wrong with sewing…I’m also weirded out when my non-sewing friends follow me on Instagram as well – maybe it’s just me!…[Read more]

If any of the seams give you grief try ironing a small scrap of interfacing to stabilise the seam before sewing.
Good luck, they sound very groovy.
