I did pretty much just what Meleliza describes for two weddings, but with a different bodice, and put in an invisible zip in the back.

It is a tricky time with a huge gap in the pattern market.
Burda do a very groovy line but the instructions can be a bit lacking and things tend to be very cropped.
Deer&Doe make lovely patterns with teeny sizes but they are a bit dressy for your average teen.
Of course the lovely Liesl+Co pattern have small sizing but may be a bit sophisticated…[Read more] -

I was just thinking today about how you don’t need that much. I’m much more organized than I used to be at planning/sewing/purchasing my kids wardrobes…and they have way fewer clothes. As for babies, their things must be washed instead of sitting around getting sour…so you are right…very little actual need if you do it right.

I wonder if you could add elastic to the back waistband for some ease?
That would be awesome for my 6 child waist line. -

I agree, I am starting from scratch with Beatrix’s wardrobe. It is great fun and surprising how few ‘outfits’ she actually needs.
Love this thread!

Oh, those are wonderful — a bit of neutral really makes the bright colors pop, doesn’t it? Some folks are so great at mixing up patterns (like Nele), but when I get inspired and try it myself I think each pattern gets a bit lost in the others. Neutral + accent is so versatile, it’s great for dipping your toe in the world of strong, vivid colors…[Read more]

The culottes are designed to sit at the natural (or actual) waist, and I do think they look better worn that way. I tend to wear most pants and jeans lower on the waist, but I would encourage you to wear these higher. We’ve sort of forgotten where our actual waists are over the past ten years of fashion, haven’t we?

Oh, I’d forgotten this thread – thanks for ressurecting it Sarvi.
I adore that Paddington outfit – think I favourited every pic of it. Such perfect details.
The three piece set is fab too – have you seen her adult tees (same Liberty….gorgeous) (& sorry – no link – on phone so too hard – but they’re in the Liesl&Co group) -

Maybe we need a sew along for knock offs of each other’s work? It is pretty special that set.

Hi everyone, I’m pretty new around here! I discovered Oliver + S through my sister and absolutely love the designs. I am currently just sewing for my two little girls (a 2 year old and a 9 month old), but hope to branch out into more tailored outfits for myself as well. It’s hard to carve out sewing time with my two eager “helpers”, but slow and…[Read more]
