I thought about this as I made one just recently. I think it would simply get too thick at the side where the two front (or two back) panels are joined, and then sewn into a frenched side seam. It would have to be very light weight fabric as Nicole said.

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Twin Needle hemming – bobbin thread breaks in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 12 years ago
Thanks everyone. I think I probably do need to play with the tension a bit as sometimes the bobbin thread looks a bit straight and isn’t zigzagging between the top threads enough. after all that’s what gives the stitch its stretch, right?
Some tougher bobbin thread appeals too. It seems Maxi Lock thread is a brand of woolly nylon, as Liesl…[Read more] -
Jane replied to the topic Adding Piping in the forum oliver + s: sleepover 12 years ago
I am lazy and don’t want to sew something twice, so I use Wonder Tape to hold the piping in place while I stitch the facing (or whatever) to the front piece (or whatever piece I am attaching it to). Works great!

This may sound daft (but I’ve done it), are you sure you haven’t rotated the bottom pants piece by 90degrees…..

Thanks for the feedback. Did you make it from pinwale or regular cord, Tamara? Yay, all cord’s on special at Spotlight!

I think what I like most about it is that it’s such a good-natured sort of competition. No fake drama. At least, not what I have seen!

Have you checked out Liesl’s posts on fitting the fairy tale bodice on the blog? they seem quite extensive and my help you with placement.

with love Heidi replied to the topic Faux Fly Basting Stitches. Removed or not? in the forum oliver + s: field trip 13 years ago
I didn’t take them out as they were hidden in a seam at the top. Unless basting stitches will show I tend to be a little lazy in removing them. 🙂

I also bumped another thread on digital patterns you might like to check out. Sometimes we presume that info is really obvious when it’s actually very obsure!

I found Nicole’s hint of using double sided stickey tape to tape them together very helpful.
In the corners the patterns have letters, you match the letters (ie A-A, B-B, etc) and this helps you get them together correctly. it’s also worth checking the page with a pictures of the pattern pieces just as a final check that they are all together…[Read more] -

Sarvi is correct – I put some in a Sunday Brunch Jacket. I don’t know how this applies to the School Days coat because I haven’t sewed it yet, but I sewed the magnetic snaps through both layers of facing and jacket fabric. I then just sewed the buttons on top through only the jacket fabric solely for their decorative effect.

Nicole, really miss both of them, both born in Singapore and we only see them once or twice a year, but they Skype every weekend, which is really great. We read books, sing silly songs and blow out birthday cakes this way. Their parents were adamant they shouldn’t miss out on grandparent time and I really love that.

Mim, maybe put the white in as the canter layers so it enhances the other colours without taking over. Think like undercoating a wall in white and them putting on the colour.

I so excited that I don’t want to do that. I have lengthened and pinned to the fabric.
But I do have another fabric I can use. A new little lisette. I bought it for this pattern. Sigh. Putting the smart before the fun. I will make it with the cheaper fabric.
Thanks for cooler heads prevailing!

Sarvi replied to the topic Sketchbook into straightleg trousers in the forum oliver + s: sketchbook 13 years ago
I’ve done this and what I did was just extend the existing line (which is not exactly straight up and down but tapers in a touch) and that worked pretty well. I worry that if you taper from the hip it might end up pretty narrow at the ankle and give a jodhpur effect, which doesn’t sound like what you’re thinking of. Just an idea, I haven’t tried…[Read more]
