Trust the instructions! The beauty of Oliver + S patterns is that sometimes it seems counterintuitive, but if you do as the instructions say the finish is always beautiful!
So, yes, the facing is stitched with the right side of the facing against the wrong side of the pyjama top. Just as in the illustration (below step 1 Attach The Facing).

I’d suggest taking a look at Fit For Real People for this one. It will show you how to adjust the shoulders, sleeve width, etc.

Does this blog post help?
If you omit the placket allowances and cut your back pattern piece on the fold, then you can create any shape of slit or keyhole opening you like at the centre back and facing as shown in that blog post.
Just be aware that you need to…[Read more] -

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Lining tutorial for City Stroll Wrap Skirt? in the forum liesl + co: city stroll wrap skirt 7 years ago
I’ve made a lined version (and a mini lined one for my daughter!) and it’s quite simple to do as you can just make two skirts, baste them together then attach the waistband and facings.
We don’t have a tutorial for lining this particular skirt on the Oliver + S blog but the lining the Soho Shorts tutorial is almost exactly the same…[Read more] -

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic What fabrics are you planning for your Fairy Tale? in the forum oliver + s: fairy tale 7 years ago
Dupioni silk would be absolutely lovely, and I’d be tempted to swap the skirt gathering for pleats as it would pleat beautifully and then stick out very nicely.
I’ve made it with silk satin, quilting cotton and organza type silk with underlining. Every one has worked just how I’d imagined it.
I think the crispness of a shantung would be perfect! -

I am currently pondering fabric choices for my daughter’s Fairy Tale birthday dress. I’m eying up some Shantung/Dupioni Silk on the Mood website. Can anyone weigh in with suggestions? What other types of fabric should I consider? She has been wanting a ‘princess dress’ for some time so I really want to deliver something she will be thrilled with!

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Making the Muslin for Classic Shirt in the forum liesl + co: classic shirt 7 years ago
Just a lightweight muslin would work fine. Most good fabric shops will carry multiple weights of muslin for different purposes. I usually keep several weights on hand–right now I’m developing trousers and using a heavier weight than I would use for blouses. But @lightningmcstitch is right–if you have a voile or batiste that would be fine too.…[Read more]

I’d maybe use a cotton voile or Batiste. Often you can pick up those lightweight almost lining weight cottons quite cheaply at the big box store fabric shops.
What a lucky mum and congratulations on your upcoming ‘vacation’ 🙂 -

Thank you for your help, @lighteningmcstitch! I just checked out your mermaid dress – it is amazing. And thank you, @lieslgibson ! It will be a gift for my friend. I’m a little nervous, as I’ve never sewn with lace before.

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Roller Skate Dress in Lace in the forum oliver + s: roller skate 7 years ago
That’s exactly how I’d do it. You’re not wanting it to be reversible so a casing applied to the inside of the lining is spot on.
I made a Roller Skate dress with sequins and did just that. Once the casing and elastic were sewn to the lining, I just hand stitched / tacked the sequin fabric to the lining along the stitching line.
It will look fabulous! -

Maggie started the topic Roller Skate Dress in Lace in the forum oliver + s: roller skate 7 years ago
Hello! I’m thinking of making a roller skate dress in lace, using lace as the main fabric and solid as the lining. It would be similar to this lovely dress from Skirt as Top, but would include the elastic casing. I would lower the casing a few inches to hit at the natural waist. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for sewing the casing so…[Read more]

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic The feet should wear short skirts to? in the forum off topic 7 years ago
Given that the product to buy is a pattern, can you be more specific about which pattern you’re asking about.
Almost any skirt looks good with stilettos (the spearheaded shoes?).
So, if I’ve understood your question properly, and that’s debatable, then the answer is yes!

Hi @florencetaylor “sorry” to have inspired you into this quandary 🙂
Here’s what my approach would be: start with the building block dress: do princess seams and dropped waist adjustments. At the dropped waist you can add the ruffles and pockets using the Seashore pattern as a guide.
Give it a neckline facing and copy across the Seashore’s…[Read more] -

Florence, given the opening at the shoulder/neckline, I can’t see any way to include sleeves without some serious innovations. But if you can figure out how to do it I’d love to see what you do!

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Ruffle picnic shorts in the forum oliver + s: class picnic 7 years ago
I haven’t done it, but it would be similar to the process of sewing View B of the Sleepover Pajamas with the ruffles. Not difficult at all, just decide where you want the ruffles and make your ruffles about twice as long as the area where you want to add them.
