What a thought provoking topic.
And timely as I’m looking to switch out my daughter’s closet and trying to figure out what she has and doesn’t have.
I’ve been very good about buying either sale or consignment ahead for her since she was first born, and she’s had a closet full of Tea, Hanna Andersson, GAP, etc. at a fraction of the price.…[Read more]

kgiff replied to the topic Which size would you use (4 or 5)? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 9 years ago
I decided to just buy the larger sizes. I’ve been patiently waiting to make a few for over a year. But I just couldn’t justify buying the smaller size when chances were I’d only get around to making it once.
I did buy a couple smaller ones with the last sale though…

I ordered a week or so ago and shipping was not nearly that much:
Subtotal : $111.95 USD (22 yards — I might have gone overboard)
Shipping : $18.90 USD
But I’m on the same coast a state away so I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

I hate to do this, but does someone have the book handy and could look up fabric requirements for the liner on the small messenger? I’ve been meaning to for the last week and keep forgetting when I’m home. I’m placing a spoon flower order and the lining I want to use is from there as well.
Thanks in advance!

@motherof5 Thanks for the link to the tutorial 🙂 I love having something for reference for new patterns or when I get stuck (which happens a lot).
I have these grand ideas and I’m fearless going into it and then I get ready to start and freeze up and start to panic. It’s a costume, so it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Thanks everyone and I will…[Read more]

I think it’s a rayon/jersey blend with probably 50% stretch.
My daughter and I have differing opinions and she picked out the fabric, since it’s for her I decided to go with it. Now I’m wondering how much of a pain this might be…

Thinking about using this as the starting point for a costume. But I’d like to modify the shoulders to be closed seams and use a stretch fabric.
From those of you who have sewn this pattern before, am I crazy to attempt it with a stretch fabric? Any tips or advice?
(This was the first Oliver + s pattern I bought, but my daughter is just shy of…[Read more]

@motherof5 wow that is quite the undertaking!

Thanks ladies! I was wondering about the durability of blackout fabric. I was assuming since it was just a liner it would not be very durable, but I guess I was mistaken. Very good information!

I thought I’d check with your knowledgable ladies to see if you have any suggestions.
I’ve been recruited to sew up a new curtain for my daughter’s preschool for their large, half circle window. It’s attached with velcro at the top during nap time to block the light so it is put up and taken down nearly every weekday each year.
The current one…[Read more]

Very cool! They look great! I’ve always wanted to learn to silkscreen, is it hard?

kgiff replied to the topic What Will You Create in 2015? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
I feel like I have enough left over from 2014 to fill the first half of this year.
My immediate projects are fabric storage bins to hide (errr.. hold) the toys/mess. And a Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6 costume for my 4 year old.
After that I need to finish up last year’s projects — family reunion dress, playtime tunic, a new “wiggle, wiggle”…[Read more]

@Nicole, I’d love to know the sellers you’ve found on eBay or search terms to use. I’m overwhelmed when looking both on Easy and eBay.

I’m relatively new to sewing as well. I love the idea of a Craftsy gift certificate.
If you do want to include a book to, I’m liking Essential Sewing Reference Tool: All-in-One Visual Guide. I spend at lot of time with google and my sewing machine manual while I’m sewing as well.
That’s so nice of you to do this for her.
