Oliver + S

  • This isn’t exactly Oliver and s but a Lisette pattern….

Ok was going really well on getting all this sewing out of the way and so this morning decided to go do the buttonholes (finally) on the denim Traveller dress for Imogen. I never bat an eyelid but during the day I was thinking about it (as one would do when they would rather be sewing over…[Read more]

Forgot to mention the completely gorgeous book report dress in denim with pink spots – super cute and the hopscotch dress and playtime leggings in giraffe and elephant knit from Spotlight – using this as a pj set. I have a pink city weekend interlock hopscotch dress needing to be hemmed also.

Oh no @scgoble! It is called life and your life features sewing machines. That is the complete downside of moving I think (happy move btw!)

I have set aside my jeans muslin in place of more kid sewing. I actually ran out of the “cheap” denim and hope to get more soon so I can continue on my merry jeans sewing way.

In the meantime I have made a…[Read more]

  • @jay_1965vw it is just the kit as the pattern is sold separately so it wouldn’t be cut out. Raglans generally allow a bit more room – like bishop dresses. But I like that thought on the seams, although I am not sure what allowance they would have, I am assuming it would be enough to allow for french seams.

I think it is very beautiful and will…[Read more]

  • Whoops sorry @liesl I completely forgot you already carry one😳. I have one similar but it is only in inches not metric also. They are very handy little gadgets but sometimes you need to revert back and “translate” and with mine it is sligtly tricky without the use of a calculator (and even that is a mindbender).

  • I’m wondering, if Liesl might stock it in her shop if there was enough interest? The last link looked really great a d I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on some decent see throug rulers. And also the grid paper that is used for pattern making. It might help with the many many alterations I have to do.

  • @jay_1965vw that gown is gorgeous! Now I have to beg the question. Do you want to go heirloom-y and have one just for Dot or are you after something more simple to “get the job done”. Do you want embroidery, smocking etc?

I would do a natural fibre, even though I am not really familiar with Queensland weather in September but I can imagine that…[Read more]

@needlewoman so glad you made it back on Fi! Yes I was one of those “lucky” people who got the message also. To me it was such an obvious “this is a hoax” type email. They are not very imaginative when it comes to things like this that is for sure.

@jay_1965vw that is good news! It will be nice to be home. It is a shame your overseas stay is hurting your hubby’s career though it is an experience your whole family will grow from – and Dot especially being born overseas, that is pretty special too. It isn’t an everyday thing so you are pretty fortunate to have the opportunity. Still, there is…[Read more]

  • @dubhels2003 are you able to laugh about the experience yet?

I am making the playtime dress at them moment. I went to baste the two backs together and discovered the bodice was totally TWISTED🙄! Nothing a little unpicking couldn’t make right but, it has been a while since I did something silly like that so thought I would share. I am being a…[Read more]

  • Hi @claire123 may I ask, are you working with a print or solid fabric? If a print, is the design going in one direction at all?

All these little details help to make the best choice for laying out your pattern.

The ladies above have given very sound advice. Generally, you fold your fabric in half so the two grainlines (the woven edges often…[Read more]

Hi @carries12345 I am very glad you managed to get the sba sorted because the bustro is such a lovely dress. I made this for daugther’s interview to her new high school last year and it turned out beautifully.

In terms of your question on blending, what I would do is first measure your front waist and compare this measurement to the pattern to…[Read more]

  • I was all prepared to be amazed by this picture but I for some reason cannot see it!😕 I am sure you did a superb job nonetheless. My daughter’s confirmation isn’t until November next year so I guess it is my turn to look about. We don’t do veils though and I am guessing there will be specifications as to how much of the “more” we are allowed – I…[Read more]

I got this photo through the other day. All the girls made one for their mums so I thought I would share it here and wish everyone a Happy Mother’s day.
