I am fine with a cheap iron. Nicer irons have lept off a wobbly ironing board to meet an early demise.

Jillls replied to the topic Sewing for a seven year old in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 9 years ago
I recently decluttered my seven year old’s wardrobe and let her decide what to keep and what to get rid of. The only handmade items that made the cut were an Apple Picking dress and several pairs (including hand-me-downs from her sister) of Class Picnic shorts. My girls love those shorts.

Jillls replied to the topic Halloween 2015 in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 9 years ago
My girls are going to be Elsa and Anna this year. I had to muddle through two separate Simplicity patterns. “Elsa” is in adults sizes but still shaped like a kid and “Anna” was just one size too big for the little girl patterns. Bodice muslins were my friends. Oliver and S needs to make a V waist dress pattern. That work work great for many of the…[Read more]

Jillls replied to the topic Need help choosing size in the forum liesl + co: cappuccino dress + tunic 9 years ago
Do a size 4 with a FBA and go out to a 10 at the hips. I don’t have the cappuccino pattern but I do have the similar Portfolio and there is plenty of ease in the waist area (you might want to double check the finished measurements just in case)that you do not need to grade to 16. You should do a muslin.

Jillls replied to the topic Marking the markings–argh!! in the forum off topic 9 years ago
I think with most of the patterns I’ve tried, the dots are close enough to the edge.

I usually do the carbon and tracing wheel thing and haven’t been left with noticeable marks. On my PDF patterns I use a hole punch to punch out dots on the pattern and then mark the dots thru the hole onto the fabric with chalk.

Make a ruffle out of eyelet to match the collar or leave it short and do a longer eyelet underskirt.

My husband, the enabler, bought me 2 of the patterns and paid 1.99 each.

Jillls replied to the topic what can I make for myself with a yard of 60" velvet? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
You could make a tunic version of the cinema dress and make the front and back yokes out of a different fabric.

Jillls replied to the topic Most and Least Worn O+S Outfit? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 9 years ago
My older daughter wore her School Photo Dress for school photos and then never again. She did not like the high collar. My youngest daughter wore her Apple Picking Dress to shreds. It was also the first O&S item I made! All of the class picnic shorts get worn daily by both girls in the summertime.

Looks like Lisette has a new line of patterns through Buttrick. I will get the dress pattern.

Jillls replied to the topic Box pleated skirt for Fairy Tale? in the forum oliver + s: fairy tale 9 years ago
I did pleats on the Apple picking Dress. I extended the skirt rectangle a bit to make the the length a number divisible by three to make the math easier.

Jillls replied to the topic where on the waist do they fit? in the forum liesl + co: girl friday culottes 9 years ago
The pair I made sit lower on my waist but the crotch is too low. Maybe you could trim an inch off the top before attaching the waistband.

Jillls replied to the topic Book Report Size 7 — Sleeve doesn't fit into armhole. in the forum oliver + s: book report 10 years ago
I do use a few pins using the seam ripper to evenly distribute the fabric between each pin.

Jillls replied to the topic Book Report Size 7 — Sleeve doesn't fit into armhole. in the forum oliver + s: book report 10 years ago
I’ve made the size seven and do not remember having problems with it. I use to hate doing set in sleeves until I stopped doing gathering stitches on non gathered sleeves. It takes a little practice but I use a seam ripper to shift the sleeve around (sleeve piece on top of the armscye piece) to ease without puckers.

If it is anything like the matching Cinema Dress there is tons of ease in the waist.
