Little ones tend to pretty up and down, even chubby ones. I would go by hip for pull on shorts *as a rule*. Sorry not to be more help.

*I haven’t made them yet*
Matilda is 5, her waist is 19′ and her hip is 21′, she is the height of a 4 year old. I would generally cut her a size 4 in pull on shorts.
Being pull on elastic waist type shorts I think a bit of ease would come to no harm.
BUT I have not made them and i don’t know if there is a sizing chart.
Is this any help?

Well, this is number 6 for me and I am due in September. 🙂
I was thinking the Empire line would work over a belly, I may add a little more to the centre panel and gather it in.
I don’t see why it wouldn’t work as a dress, it just may end up quite full, a long tunic would be lovely and the stripes would be very flattering.
As for underlining, you…[Read more] -

Thanks for all the encouragement! I was actually thinking of asking my mother for her wedding dress. I was thinking of assessing it for any possible pieces I could use and maybe a bit of an up-cycle.
My daughter is only 5’1″, and has the figure of a gymnast. So, I think the fitting may go ok.
Tamara – I haven’t even priced them, but I know…[Read more] -

My best suggestion is that your pintucks are too small – they need to all be exactly 1/4″ (go on, ask me how I know – my one attempt at this dress is still waiting for some serious unpicking….)

Nope, no notches on mine either. Since the facing piece should extend half an inch past the folded edge, if it would be helpful, you can mark a notch half an inch from the edge as shown in the illustration. Would you like a photo showing how to do that to help you get back on track, since the issue wasn’t with folding, tracing, marking, or…[Read more]

Ok, I had a peek, and I can think of 3 spots where something might have happened:
1. the pintucks: I made a mockup in paper and even in paper, I had a bit of trouble getting everything perfectly traced, transferred, and folded
2. the fold of the back edge — should be 1.5 inches total
3. tracing the back piece — the line for the 2T is close to…[Read more] -

I can’t seem to find it now, but there was a cute one that cut the front stitching line on the fold to make a basic blouse with jewel neckline/no placket. Can’t remember if it was Instagram or maybe Pinterest?
