  • Hello, I’m having a tired daft moment. I’ve followed the instruction to cut 2 x 1 3/4 x 8 inch interfacing for the placket for the shirt view b, but I can’t see when and where to attach it, please could someone advise me! I think I could work it out but I’d rather get it right first time and avoid wasting fabric!

    Thank you, Helena

@sarvi Is that the lego female scientist kit?!

@justsewit Sorry to hear that you are funeral sewing. It is a nice tribute to someone that you are making something to wear.

@nicole I can’t wait to see a teeny tiny bubble dress, it is the sweetest pattern.

I have finally started to try and sew again after the baby. I have mostly traced the…[Read more]

  • PS, where does packy for liquor store come from?

  • That college/university one is strange in the UK. I generally use college to refer to somewhere that delivers further rather than higher education. For example York College mainly teaches post 16 further education rather than higher education (degree or higher). That said, the college does teach one or two degrees…

    Generally higher education…[Read more]

    Cossie/swim suit or swimming costume.

Soda is specifically the fizzy soda water generally used for mixing with drinks. Soft drink or fizzy drink (if fizzy!) for general non-alcoholic drinks. Pop is used if you want to sound ‘vintage’!

@vothgirl That’s very sweet! I think our daughters are probably a similar age. I can hear my two year old ‘reading’ stories to her cot toys before she naps. ‘Babbit dis is Peppa Pig’ etc.

I love the unmoderated comments of small children. Lady E is currently obsessed by noise ‘Noise, noise, wat dat mummy? Car noise mummy, bang and pop mummy’…[Read more]

  • @admin Apologies for the poor quality picture, hope this helps. My phone is a Galaxy Ace, and I have to be honest, I don’t even know what operating system means? It’s an android phone, is that it?!

  • Hello there, I’m loving exploring the new functionality, and thank you for investing in the forum as I find it invaluable.

I noticed this morning that when I open a discussion thread on my phone all the text overlaps. I tried again just now with a number of threads and it does the same. I’m not sure if anyone else has experienced this or…[Read more]

It is lovely looking at all the pictures of beautiful craft rooms online, but I have been reflecting that having a comfortable space with table and chair at the right height is massively more important than a beautiful vintage office chair (sigh, the beautiful 150s one will just have to stay lusted over on ebay!). I currently sew at the dining…[Read more]

Yay! I’m happy to contribute and write something but it would probably be better written by someone who has had a sewing room for a while and has gone through the process of establishing what works for them and what doesn’t.
I am really looking forward to sewing how other people organise their space.

  • They are lovely. I’m with you on Amanda’s three piece set, I have lost count of the times I’ve looked at the pictures of that outfit and coveted it!

It is now two episodes into season two of the great british sewing bee, 8pm GMT on BBC 2 on Tuesday. I’m not sure how you get it overseas.
Applications are open for season 3 contestants, I can’t convince my mum to enter which is a shame!

If you enjoyed the format of this show and enjoy baking, the original show The Great British Bake Off starts a new series tonight. It’s great, with the same pleasantness between the contestants. Apologies for taking this off on a non-sewing tangent!
