Good luck Ellen.
Do you have access to an older machine? Many modern machines dislike bulk but older work horses will often chug through anything.
Alternatively, leave that button hole off, sew a faux button where it should be and sew a popper on the inside. I do find this blouse does benefit from a sew in popper just under the edge anyway. -

I’m on the button holes! I’m having trouble with he one at the top. I’m at fencing with older Dd right now, but planning a second attempt late tonight.

Those quilts were just beautiful Fiona! But I must say any storms happening in and around your area would certainly be sewing ones!
We have our fabric for this “ball” dress and now we have to figure out how to print the so called printable pattern – simplicity. Then maybe I can get started on a muslin.
They don’t give us much time, just two…[Read more]

Wow Liesl! Thank you for your kind and willing response. This is one of the reasons I really appreciate Oliver and S, as well as the fantastic patterns and instructions, is that you listen and respond. Thank You, I will look out for it when it becomes available 🙂

It’s now on my list to grade up the skirt and release it in larger sizes! I can totally understand why you like it, and it would be great for the older girls too, I agree. I have a very large project on my plate right now, but I’ll try to squeeze it in when I can find time, ok?

You are very welcome, Liesl. I meant every word!! And many I didn’t write. Thank you Enbee for your encouragement about sewing knits. My Janome has a walking foot which I use often; in fact I have re-discovered its usefulness in topstitching, and for attaching binding. (I used the WF almost all the time I was constructing the Popover Sundresses,…[Read more]

Sounds like you are making the most of a break on the work front, lattem. I look forward to seeing your Parachute shirt, and your Vintage pattern, Nicole.
I finished 7 Popover Sundresses today, and they are washed and ironed and ready to post to Melbourne tomorrow with an assortment of crafty things as a donation to the Maytime Fair in Kew. I’m…[Read more]

So, has anyone dared try to grade this pattern up to a size 7 or even 12? I want to but if it’s a total pain I’d rather know before I begin…thanks for any info

My concern relates to the use of pesticides in the farming of cotton, which equates to 5 lbs. of pesticides per tee shirt. That is a lot of toxic stuff we are pouring into our Mother Earth and then passing it on to our children. But the other issue, and certainly not the least, is the health of the farmer and his family. It is easy to understand…[Read more]

meleliza replied to the topic Favorite TV Show to watch while handsewing in the forum off topic 10 years ago
I only watch reruns when I’m sewing because I’m really just listening and not watching. It needs to be something that captures enough of my attention that I don’t wander off thinking about a million things, but not so interesting that it distracts me from what I’m doing. I was binge watching ghost whisperer, now I’m on Charmed. I may do desperate…[Read more]
