@mim22, thank you.
We had a scary and vigilant few days but the weather has broken now. We had a huge fire last year and lost a lot of fences, crops and sheds so we had cleared a lot of trees and scrubby undergrowth in anticipation.
My sister, who lives in the Adelaide Hills, was evacuated but her home was not burnt.I love sewing Liberty, I use…[Read more]

I use the same needles I use for everything else and Gutermann, not for any special reason, just because it always seems to be on sale at JoAnn. If you want to splurge on the good stuff, this’d be the project. Maybe think of getting some special buttons?
Liberty lawn is a dream to sew: holds a crease perfectly and it’s so obedient, it’s like…[Read more]

Great resolutions, and I totally agree — sometimes the big stash is a storage problem and source of option paralysis. I think I’ll bookmark a few pieces of the quilting cotton for, gasp, actual quilts, and maybe chuck the rest on ebay/etsy/instagram?

Isn’t she darling? The proportions are really so different on babies. I thought the same thing about the long rise but then I remembered how differently babies move, you don’t want little bellies getting chilled when all that kicking tugs downs low-rise pants.

Sarvi replied to the topic Adding a collar in the forum oliver + s: lullaby 10 years ago
Do you have any small shirts with collars you could copy/trace? Or you could type ‘shirt collar pattern’ into https://images.google.com/ and get a feel for the shape of the piece, then just draw it yourself. After one or two practice ones you’d probably get a shape and size you liked. Your local library might also have a book with what you need.…[Read more]

Yep, these are the knits. 3 colourways of the floral, the crosses, and the scallops/stripes, and two colourways of the random dots and the circles. (Sorry – should have arranged them better for the pic – they were shelved rather haphazardly). I have uploaded the pic to the O+S Flickr group – you should be able to see it better there

For those in Australia – it seems the new Lisettes have made their way to Spotlight – I found what looks like the full range of the new knits today at Spotlight Rockdale. They are $16.95/m, but are currently on special for $11.90/m…..not trying to enable anyone or anything….. 😉

I don’t know how helpful this will be, but I just measured a size 7 Playdate dress, which has side-seam pockets. Measuring down from the shoulder seam, the opening for the pocket starts at 15″ and ends at 19.5″

I did pretty poorly on my resolutions — my organization is worse, if anything, and I have one piece for my advent calendar, made in January, I think. I did finally make successful forays into sewing for myself, however, which felt really huge. I didn’t resolve to cut into more of my ‘good stuff’ but I did do it and was really happy. I think this…[Read more]

Happy New Year to all!
I hope everyone is safe and well.
My sewing goals for the New Year are to sew more thoughtfully (do we really need it)? and focus on finishing and fabric choices.
I also plan to downsize my stash. I am frequently given bags of fabric and patterns from ladies that no longer sew, which is lovely, but I think I need to cull…[Read more]

@EllenMCM, do you have the Jumprope dress pattern? I was making my son a shirt last year and I pulled out the Jumprope instructions to help me do the sleeve plackets.
Still sewing my cousins dress. Next up, the Field Trip cargoes and tee for Tildy. Then I will be cutting more swimmers, school uniforms or a shirt for my husband.

Nicole replied to the topic Fleece Nature Walk pullover–still use interfacing? in the forum oliver + s: nature walk 10 years ago
Not a huge polar fleece fan, it is not cold enough here, but I do use cotton un-brushed fleece a lot.
I do interface as per usual but as this will make one side more rigid then the other, I will use a thin strip of interfacing to stabilise the seam area of the other piece of fabric. - Load More
