Also, because of the way the top is constructed, you can easily make more tummy room by slashing and spreading the middle piece from the bottom up, in addition to grading out at the side seams.

Hi Cybele! My measurements are UB 37, FB 41, Waist 33. I sewed up the L D-cup as a muslin and was surprised to see that it fit pretty spot on (I was expecting the upper chest and straps to be too big/wide, and that I would have to adjust the seams, but neither of those things were the case). Your full bust is a little bigger than mine, but depending on the stretch of your knit, a straight L on the top might work for you, and then you could grade out the waist.

Hi Annie. I think I would probably put in the seam for the best fit, and then end up with a slit opening instead of a keyhole. . But you could try doing the adjustment without a center back seam, and then take out the excess at the neckline with darts.

The Saint-Germain has waist pleats, not waist darts. So you don’t really need to extend anything. If you don’t think that will work for your shape, you could try rotating the fullness of the pleat into a side bust dart. I added a dart for mine since I have a large bust.

If it’s just the shoulder width you want to change, I’d probably try a narrow shoulder adjustment on the size x-large yoke to get to to the width you need. Then you don’t have to mess with trying to get it to match up to the x-large body parts.

I have had to do this a lot. It sounds like my daughter is built similarly to your son – if I was going by the size chart she would wear a 2 with the length of a 7! I was given a bit of advice by Liesl a couple years ago, though, to only size down the width a couple sizes from the length, to preserve proportions. I find that this works for us.

That said, I did tend to lengthen the rise when I sewed her woven pants (as opposed to knit leggings, which are the only kind of pants I sew for her these days). I have done this with the Sailboat and the After-School patterns. I start by tracing the rise of the larger size, and then switching to the smaller pattern piece and tracing the rest of the waist and hip area using that pattern piece. It works fine. Hope that helps.

Looking forward to seeing the tees, Nicole.

I am halfway through a quilt (my first!) for a friend’s baby. I took a break to participate in Kids Clothes Week. I’ve made a peplum School Bus Tee and two sets of interlock pjs for my boys (using the Playtime Legging, Field Trip Tee and School Bus Tee patterns). I have a knit top cut out using the Library pattern but it is not going quite right. Thinking about buying the Mini Hudson pattern to make some new comfy pants for my son (who just potty trained in three days, yay for only one in diapers at our house!).

thejennigirl I am so sorry for your loss.

I hope Murray is doing better. I enjoyed your photos of your girls on Flickr. It sounds like school is going so well for Imogen, illness notwithstanding. Hope she is feeling better.

I always find clean slates to be exhilarating. Hope this change brings great things for you.

I have taken a little bit of a break from Flickr and the parts around it following a disturbing incident a few weeks ago. A couple of photos of my son wearing swim trunks I had sewn for him last summer were “favorited” by a man unknown to me. Whenever that happens, I click through to see whether this is a person interested in sewing, or something else. Usually I can tell from the person’s other favorites that they are interested in the sewing. But this person’s favorites was full of photos of young boys – all scantily clad or completely naked. I immediately blocked the user and started fiddling with my privacy settings. Because the photos were of my son in a swimsuit, I had cropped his head out, but I am unnerved nevertheless!

Not sure what to do going forward. I am sure I am not the only person on this forum to whom something like this has happened (please share if you have something to tell!). Last year someone tried to add photos of me wearing various plaid shirts that I had sewn, to a clearly fetishist group featuring women in plaid shirts, many posing suggestively. It was just a photo of me, so I declined the invitation, but didn’t think much else about it. But my kids … I wanted to throw up.

Call me a cab ‘cuz I’m late
Once again there’s too much on my plate
    A skirt and some pants
    To wear to a dance
And a new dress – perhaps Roller Skate!

I “thrifted” an old orange chair

Two of my younger siblings got engaged over the holidays and are planning fall weddings – my four children and my niece and nephew will be in the weddings. I will be sewing two sets of three flower girls’ dresses and hopefully just the one set of three Art Museum ensembles that the boys will wear for both. My sister and I chose a light gray cotton suiting with white pinstripes for the vests and pants and I am planning to sew them soon so that my sons can also wear them for Easter.

I probably won’t start the dresses until late spring, but my sister wants coral with Tiffany blue sashes, and my future sister-in-law is leaning towards white with plum-colored sashes. I have not decided which pattern to use. This is my inspiration (but different colors).

@motherof5 @with-love-heidi No blog post yet but there will be one sometime soonish. I used this pattern. They turned out really cute but I found the pattern directions really confusing.

Sewed a pair of slippers for my sister for Christmas last night. Going to make another pair for my other sister. I also have two more American Girl doll dresses to make, and then a red ponte skirt for myself to wear for Christmas.

Tamara, I’m so sorry to hear about Murray. I’ll be keeping him in my prayers.
