Yes, that was the message that was sent to several members here on the forums. Sorry, again, for the inconvenience.

  • @jay_1965vw that gown is gorgeous! Now I have to beg the question. Do you want to go heirloom-y and have one just for Dot or are you after something more simple to “get the job done”. Do you want embroidery, smocking etc?

I would do a natural fibre, even though I am not really familiar with Queensland weather in September but I can imagine that…[Read more]

@needlewoman so glad you made it back on Fi! Yes I was one of those “lucky” people who got the message also. To me it was such an obvious “this is a hoax” type email. They are not very imaginative when it comes to things like this that is for sure.

Oh and @dubhels2003 of course you have friends! Just Kate Smith is NOT one of them😀 I feel sorry…[Read more]

Yeah, me too, dubhels. Aren’t some people ‘ordinary’? Luckily, we have each other on this forum to suss the fakers out. I did see Todd’s post about the scammer but my email was dated later, and I just wanted to be sure. Sorry that you ladies were ‘puzzled’ too. C’est la vie. On a happier note, I hope you all had a nice Mothers’ Day, last weekend.…[Read more]

I have received an unusual email from “Kate Smith” who claims to have read my profile (I don’t have one); and wants to ‘contact’ for friendship. Is this person the spammer? Can anyone on forum help? I don’t want to be rude if the email is legitimate.

@jay_1965vw that is good news! It will be nice to be home. It is a shame your overseas stay is hurting your hubby’s career though it is an experience your whole family will grow from – and Dot especially being born overseas, that is pretty special too. It isn’t an everyday thing so you are pretty fortunate to have the opportunity. Still, there is…[Read more]

  • I made a baptism gown that Audrey and Josephine wore, but unfortunately it is a 3 month size, and Dorothy is not going to be baptised until visit Australia in September. She’s already about to grow out of the one her sisters wore (I’m thinking of taking photos in the next week, just so she has at least worn…[Read more]

Our big news is that we will be returning to Canberra in January next year. It will be cutting our US posting short by one year, but we’re ok with that. Being here is affecting DHs career detrimentally, as he is out of his category (not doing the specific job he is trained for).
We’ve started checking out the housing market in the ACT. It is…[Read more]

  • @dubhels2003 are you able to laugh about the experience yet?

I am making the playtime dress at them moment. I went to baste the two backs together and discovered the bodice was totally TWISTED🙄! Nothing a little unpicking couldn’t make right but, it has been a while since I did something silly like that so thought I would share. I am being a…[Read more]

    Really cute, @constainia!

  • Hi @claire123 may I ask, are you working with a print or solid fabric? If a print, is the design going in one direction at all?

All these little details help to make the best choice for laying out your pattern.

The ladies above have given very sound advice. Generally, you fold your fabric in half so the two grainlines (the woven edges often…[Read more]

  • That sounds like great advice, Tarama (@justsewit)! And I’m flattered that you turned to one of our pattern to learn the technique, @carries12345. Keep us posted on how it turns out!

  • Tamara replied to the topic SBA question in the forum liesl + co: bistro dress 8 years ago

Hi @carries12345 I am very glad you managed to get the sba sorted because the bustro is such a lovely dress. I made this for daugther’s interview to her new high school last year and it turned out beautifully.

In terms of your question on blending, what I would do is first measure your front waist and compare this measurement to the pattern to…[Read more]

  • I was all prepared to be amazed by this picture but I for some reason cannot see it!😕 I am sure you did a superb job nonetheless. My daughter’s confirmation isn’t until November next year so I guess it is my turn to look about. We don’t do veils though and I am guessing there will be specifications as to how much of the “more” we are allowed – I…[Read more]

  • Practice the dart with some scraps before you sew it! You might want a little stabilizer, too, depending on your fabric.

  • I think it depends on your fabric, too. But yes, if you have a 4″ difference between your high and regular bust measurements, I’d think you’ll probably want to do a FBA.

I’m working on a peplum top from this pattern right now. I’m using a very drapey woven fabric, so I’ve gone up 4 sizes to get an oversized look. But I think if I had a fuller…[Read more]
