Yes, velveteen is cotton velvet. Nicole nailed it: poly velvet, etc. Should be a really cute dress!

I would call cotton velvet ”velveteen”. Then there is stretch poly velvet, poly mix velour and cotton velour which are all pretty stretchy.
That said,I had some stretch cotton velvet that was a little stretchy……
I love making ‘do-dads’ to decorate clothes.

If it is stretch velveteen and got a good stretch you shouldn’t need the pleat as long as you do not go too long!
I think a pearly stretch cotton sateen would look lovely as a bib. Or use the same fabric and make some ruffle roses from the same fabric and sew them to one side of the yoke like a corsage. You could sew multiple pearls as a centre…[Read more] -

The pleat is required in this dress I think if you intend to use velvet. I like Liesl’s idea of using velvet for the bodice also. I can’t think of anything the same weight that would team well with it but I do adore the whole velvet in a colour and a complimenting white to go with it. Whatever the outcome of your fabric purchase for this dress, it…[Read more]

Todd Gibson replied to the topic Printing PDF Patterns in the forum oliver + s: bubble dress 13 years ago
Thanks for pointing that out. It’s odd, and you’re the first to notice it.
It looks like 1/8″ was added to all sides of each sheet when the Bubble Dress file was generated. (I’ve checked all the digital patterns, and it was only this one that is sized that way.)
The good news is that this won’t have any impact on the accuracy or sizing of the…[Read more] -
Todd Gibson replied to the topic I believe there is an error in pattern pieces for shorts in the forum oliver + s: sketchbook 13 years ago
You should check the errata notice for that pattern. All the details are provided for you here:

If I was adding fullness to the front I would certainly add to the back as well.

Does it really? I thought it went over the shoulders-how embarrassing!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/6854993321/in/set-72157628523956955 here it is crossed over.
I will make the biggies hunt it out this arvo and check the spacing for you.
(and thank you,I have nearly finished it)! -

Thanks Nicole,
I am planning to add press studs at regular intervals (as I have a snap press which makes it really fast to add) for size adjustment, but needed a idea of where to start.
How/where have you crossed Matilda’s over, as the pattern already calls for it to cross over on the back?
thanks Heidi
P.S. I really like the new trench coat you made. -

Heidi, what a kind and generous soul you are!
I must admit I can’t measure my daughters as it is MIA,however,I was given the great tip of crossing the shoulders straps as my Matilda is such a mini moo it falls off her shoulders.
If I was sewing for a trading table,I would add the fluffy side of the velcro to the straps at regular increments to make…[Read more] -

I went and measured the one I made. I placed the first velcro 8 1/2 inches from the end of the strap (not where it attaches to the carrier) and the second 12 inches from the end. My carrier is for my 4 and 7 year old daughters. Hope that helps!
