Tough decision, J. I’d echo all of the above re. the relationship issues- both positive and negative, and about whether it’s important to you. On the seriously plus side, as your daughter is small and slim, it will take much less fabric, and Vogue patterns are very stylish (in my opinion, especially for simple, A line frocks). I love the idea of a…[Read more]

Having just sewn a wedding cape for a friend, I only said yeas because I knew she was very easy going about her wedding. Even then I made two muslins before I made the final version!
Another couple of options for cheaper dresses is prom season. I picked up my wedding dress at a ladies chain store when they had ball (prom) dresses out. It’s…[Read more] -

Thanks for all the encouragement! I was actually thinking of asking my mother for her wedding dress. I was thinking of assessing it for any possible pieces I could use and maybe a bit of an up-cycle.
My daughter is only 5’1″, and has the figure of a gymnast. So, I think the fitting may go ok.
Tamara – I haven’t even priced them, but I know…[Read more] -

My best suggestion is that your pintucks are too small – they need to all be exactly 1/4″ (go on, ask me how I know – my one attempt at this dress is still waiting for some serious unpicking….)

Nope, no notches on mine either. Since the facing piece should extend half an inch past the folded edge, if it would be helpful, you can mark a notch half an inch from the edge as shown in the illustration. Would you like a photo showing how to do that to help you get back on track, since the issue wasn’t with folding, tracing, marking, or…[Read more]

Nope mine do doesn’t have the notches either! I have only made it once back in Jan. But looking at the diagram and how I finished that part of the dress I think your pattern piece is fine. It should extend 1/2″ over the back, but that’s over the folded up button placket you created in the very first step of the instructions. I think you may…[Read more]

Ok, I had a peek, and I can think of 3 spots where something might have happened:
1. the pintucks: I made a mockup in paper and even in paper, I had a bit of trouble getting everything perfectly traced, transferred, and folded
2. the fold of the back edge — should be 1.5 inches total
3. tracing the back piece — the line for the 2T is close to…[Read more] -

Bookwyrm, that’s my understanding that only the first 4 plus the new layette set cater for under 6m. Everything else starts at 6m size.

The lullaby layette only goes to a size 2. The first few patterns only went to size five I think and then a few at size 8 and then the later ones to size 12.

I can’t seem to find it now, but there was a cute one that cut the front stitching line on the fold to make a basic blouse with jewel neckline/no placket. Can’t remember if it was Instagram or maybe Pinterest?

Thank you! She’s a screen printed doll that I designed about 15 years ago. I planned to make them to sell, but it’s not worth the time involved. One day when I have time I may turn them into a kit. For now, I make them for gifts, and Audrey has my prototype as her best friend. Harriet goes EVERYWHERE with us 🙂
I have done the toggles on Audrey’s…[Read more] - Load More
