Hi all! Thanks for your responses to this! I should say that this particular skirt does run small. It’s a very slim-fitting skirt, so even if your child is measuring small you probably shouldn’t size down very much. The elastic at the back waist will cinch up any extra width, and smaller kids will want the extra room for movement anyway. Those…[Read more]

Glad you’re feeling more confident! The patterns really are so darling, and there can be so many different kinds of looks. Have a peep at the flickr pool if you haven’t already — one tip: you can search within the group for the name of a specific pattern, and you can not only see how your ideas might look (“What if I did a dark bodice and light…[Read more]

Carefully pinning the whole length of the side seam of a jersey dress cut from finicky, slinky fabric … to my pant leg, as it turned out.

Pure fantasy…..
Do I make another Puppet Show dress in palest coral hailspot muslin or Liberty lawn? (Trixie doesn’t need either as her current one washes and dries in no time and she will grow out of it) -

I’m at my father in law’s in Brisbane, I finished Audrey’s shirred dress and sailboat trousers that I bought fabric for, and I’m getting itchy fingers now!
I bought a new shirred breastfeeding top for myself (ah the joys of a big city that has maternity shops!!), and I’ve decided to copy it with some lightweight printed cotton I have… at home.…[Read more] -

Ah, I left my heart in San Francisco, along with my former dress size …
Still plugging away at the blog post, but might have to interrupt as a Spoonflower order arrived. I couldn’t stop laughing. It came out twice as big as I’d intended. -

When you say the front patterns don’t cross, is this when you’re trying the garment on? This pattern has more ease than a blouse, so if it’s so tight you have to force it when buttoning, I wonder whether sizing up would solve the problem.

Hi Maria,
Yes, the pattern is wider at the back than the front. Sounds strange, I know, but if gives a nice fit this way! -

*I have not made this yet* but that sounds about right. Your back is broader then your front.
