Good to hear from you Nicole, I’m glad you’re internet has improved. I’ve been enjoying your makes over on patternreview. I just bought some duckling fabric which I think is the equivalent of the velour rabbit fabric you used for L,T and B.
I’ve been making lots of LTTS drawstring bags, it’s a fantastic way to use up my practice embroidery pieces…[Read more] -

Oh, I’m glad to see you here! I was a little worried that everyone had moved exclusively to the Facebook group, but this is such a nice community I hope you’ll stay. I just finished sewing all the samples for our fall photo shoot last weekend, and now I’m catching up on email before I dive into spring pattern development. Somehow I want to fit in…[Read more]

I was just thinking of this thread recently. Thanks for refreshing it.
I hope you’ll say hello when you’re in Melbourne, Nicole. If the planets align I might just find myself with time to browse a fabric shop 😉
For three days now I haven’t worked on anything. May and June was like a manic sewing bender at my place. Finally I’ve packed everything…[Read more] -

The lowest number listed is the number of the printing. So since your pattern, @4dfamily98, has a 1 that means it’s the first printing.

You can find the errata page here:

@juliarhodes, did you check the finished measurements chart? That’s often the best way to determine which size you want to make, since it gives you the actual finished measurements which you can compare to your body and where you want the waistband to sit when it’s done. You might also want to compare it to other clothes that fit the way you like.…[Read more]

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Adding in-line pockets in the forum oliver + s: sleepover 7 years ago
Sorry, what do you mean by in-line pockets? We cover lots of different pockets and pocket construction in the Building Block Dress book. Does that have what you need?

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Raglán Draft in the forum oliver + s: field trip 7 years ago
A raglan sleeve is really a patternmaking technique rather than a pattern alteration technique. It’s quite complicated. I’d suggest starting with a pattern like the Carousel Dress, like Lightning suggests, so you don’t need to draft the sleeve yourself.

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Raglán Draft in the forum oliver + s: field trip 7 years ago
That’s such a wholesale change, I’d probably come at it the other way. Start with a raglan sleeve block pattern, such as the Field Trip tee, then use Building Block Dress Book techniques to create the changes (lengthening, A-line etc) that you want.

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic ban-rol in the forum off topic 7 years ago
I don’t know what PA glue is either. Ban-Rol is really designed for dressy men’s trousers, and it makes the waistband very stiff. So maybe the glue serves to secure the Ban-Rol to the fabric? You might want to find out. But the exact width of the stuff isn’t so important since you’ll pull threads to determine how wide your hem will be. Good luck!…[Read more]

No, no, don’t force! 🙂
The pocket piece will extend beyond the opening of the pocket to “fill in” the area of the skirt in the top corner.
I’ve attached a photo of my pattern tracing pieces (from the shorts, but it will be the same).
In the image the pocket piece is on the bottom, then the pocket bag, then the shorts/skirt front on top. Hopefully…[Read more] -

I’m not sure if this will be the right width, but Amazon has it. If this is too wide, you could check there for other widths.

Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Serger Problems! in the forum off topic 7 years ago
Sounds like a problem with the differential feed. Or maybe the feed dogs aren’t moving at all?…
Somewhere you’ll have a differential feed dial that alters the travel of the fabric. Have you fiddled with that?
If rethread get and fiddling with the feed doesn’t work then I’d call in help.
Good luck -
Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Serger Problems! in the forum off topic 7 years ago
Ugh, wish I could help! I sort of freak out whenever my serger starts giving me problems. Sometimes, like with sewing machines, it helps to just re-thread it. But given how much I hate re-threading a serger, that’s no small task. Do you have a good local repair shop? It might be worth stopping by to see if they can offer advice and maybe a quick fix?

Liesl Gibson replied to the topic Making the Muslin for Classic Shirt in the forum liesl + co: classic shirt 7 years ago
That sounds perfect! You can use the folded placket instead of the set-in placket to eliminate extra cutting and sewing. You might want to confirm the sleeve length with the cuff as well, and be sure the staystitch the neckline so it doesn’t distort while you’re trying it on. Good for you, making a muslin! It’s well worth it in the long run.

Are you on the Facebook group? I just saw that someone was planning to sell their patterns. Try there, or if you don’t do FB then I can prompt the seller to look here.
What country are you in? I know a few websites that have older paper stock…. -
Lightning McStitch replied to the topic facing attachment in the forum liesl + co: woodland stroll cape 7 years ago
Once the facing is attached to the lining then that whole piece is the lining going forward.
It’s ages since I made it, but there’s no tricks, it will make sense once you’re doing it. -

We made a pretty big behind-the-scenes change to the website today. It’s nothing that anyone would necessarily notice, but it had to be done for to enable us to do some things in the future.
If you should happen to find links to pages that are not found, would you please be so kind as to post them here so we can get them fixed?
Thanks for your…[Read more]
