So apparently Prince Harry is going to marry Meghan Markel next weekend here in the uk. I hadn’t noticed 😉 My daughter’s school is having a royal wedding themed dress up day. She could go as a bride, as a princess, in red, white and blue etc. I’ve decided to do a dress covered in red, white and blue bunting. But a can’t decide which dress. Any…[Read more]

Nicole, please don’t concern yourself in the circumstances. I’m sorry to hear of your loss. I can’t believe it’s been a month since I first posted. My mom had a relapse and has still not recovered. My sewing seems destined to be put on prolonged hold, at least for another month or two. I’d like to thank everyone for their generous suggestio…[Read more]

Todd Gibson replied to the topic Digital Building Block Dress Pattern in the forum oliver + s: building block dress 7 years ago
We haven’t made that pattern available in digital format. When you start to make your alterations, it is actually quite important that you work with traced pattern pieces rather than the original or with copies printed from a PDF. This is because you will want to have only the lines and markings for the size you are going to work with when you…[Read more]

Thanks for your understanding. It really should be called out more clearly than that, so I’ve just added a box to the first page of the tiled pages. Anyone who likes can use their download link to obtain this updated copy. There’s been no change to instructions or pattern pieces.

Jolly good! In that case, it has all printed out perfectly. Thank you so much Todd. I can’t believe after all these years, I didn’t figure that out for myself!!

Katy,
The grid lines on the tiled pattern pieces are all 1″ x 1″. You can use any of those as the test square.

Hello,
Thanks to my very generous husband, I awoke to find the Cartwheel PDF in my inbox. I have printed it out but can’t find the size test square anywhere. Normally (and stated in the instructions) it is on the first pattern page.
Any clues?many thanks, Katy.

Lucy, I was hoping to make a video to demonstrate this step but haven’t had a chance yet. The trick is to sew only one shoulder at a time and then turn it right side out before sewing the other shoulder. If you reach in through the sewn shoulder you can pull the dress right side out through the shoulder–it sounds crazy and will feel wrong when…[Read more]

Nicole, please forgive me not thanking you sooner for all your helpful suggestions. My ninety-year-old mother gave us a scare last week, necessitating a stay in the hospital. Thankfully, she’s well again, or at least we’ll enough to come home, but everything else went by the wayside. Sewing has been put on hold for now, unfortunately, but I’m…[Read more]

Nicole, your jacket , and daughter, are adorable. Did you have to do much re-sizing on the pattern? The fit looks perfect.

Thanks for the suggestion, Reeni. This is supposed to be a surprise for her and my DD is clueless about sewing (by choice). I might manage to borrow and measure a well fitting jacket, but we’re not there that often, and it would definitely not be able to do it secretly. As to asking my DD to do it, she’s so allergic to tape measures, she bal…[Read more]

Thank you Nicole and Reeni. These are great ideas! I have made the sketchbook for my little boy, but I think the collar stands up more so for a teeny 17 months old, buttoning up will completely cover his neck.
I don’t have the music class pattern yet and I’m thinking of getting it…but it looks like the collar is shorter? -

Thank you for checking in, @motherof5 ! Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to proceed yet. I’m a student and have a lot of homework, so my sewing has to happen in small increments on the weekends. Hopefully I can get a little more done this weekend, though! After this version for myself I’m planning a roller skate in lace for my best friend’s…[Read more]

I really love the classic British / French shirts for little boys, inspiration here: https://www.pepaandcompany.com/baby/tops-and-shirts/baby-polo-collar-shirt-navy-checks.html
What are your thoughts on the music class blouse for boys? Is there anything you can think of to adjust on the pattern to fit boys better?
Thank you

Maggie replied to the topic Clipping into Staystitching? in the forum oliver + s: roller skate 7 years ago
Thank you for your response, Nicole! I didn’t understand that staystitching is meant to aid in the sewing process, and doesn’t matter after that. I’ll now confidently clip to the seam line.

Hello! I’ve sewn the neckline and armholes on my roller skate dress, and the next step is to trim the seam allowances to between 1/8″ and 1/4″ and then clip the curves so that they won’t pucker when the dress is right side out. Previously, though, the instructions said to staystitch the neckline with a 3/8″ seam (so the stitching is now 1/8″ away…[Read more]
