I would fully line the bodice in something soft and non transparent, such as Radiance, a silk cotton blend. Shiny side on the inside so it will be slippery and comfortable.
If don’t want any show through at the neck, darts and armscyes, you can add an underlining to the bodice. Again, it should be something opaque.

meleliza replied to the topic Most and Least Worn O+S Outfit? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 9 years ago
Lately, I think playtime dresses have been the most worn. Comfortable and easy, she can put them on herself and they still look enough like dresses to be liked, but are easy to play around in. Ice cream gets a lot of wear in the warmer months, I think. On a day like today I can’t even remember what it feels like to be warm.
The bedtime pjs or is…[Read more]

Agreed, the skirt is just a big rectangle. Cut it as wide as you like. The fairy tale skirt isn’t even that full. For finer fabrics, I like to cut it even wider. If you have 58″ fabric, just tear one strip all the way across.
Honestly, @sarvi, the French seams in the sleeves aren’t any more fiddly than a 1/2″ seam. Actually, it’s easier to set a…[Read more]

Adorable bloomers and bubbles! Yes, any kind of dress or tunic totally gets in the way.

Butterick website has a pattern sale on right now! It seems like you can buy the new Lisette ones. I’m currently wondering if the fancy dress might be the perfect thing for some Marsala colored linen in my stash. I mean, if I have the color of the year, I ought to have a dress out of it!

Found it! I meant Butteick, which are on sale right now on the website.
Why on earth won’t my link appear? Whatever, google butterick 3351.
It doesn’t have that princess pointy waist, but it has the wrap around sleeve concept, whatever that may be called. And the pointy waist is a little too costume like for my taste on what is meant to be a…[Read more]

Wow, that reminds me of a prom dress I begged my mom to make for me in 1992. It also reminds me of the dress belle wears in beauty and the beast, which was my favorite of all the Disney dresses until Elsa.
It’s a slightly dated style, but you might be able to find something similar. It’s not a cape let at all but part of the sleeve. I feel like I…[Read more]

How fun!
I’ve been tracing line drawings in patterns for years as a way of sketching out my ideas first. Eventually, I got good enough to draw them more freehand, but I still rely on tracing a lot of the time. I like the DOING stuff and completely lack your patience for extracting and PDF making – so thank you for sharing!I shall give this to…[Read more]

Oh no, the Hilary pattern only goes up to size 4! I was so in love with the cap sleeves and the single button back. And the bride loved it too! 🙁

Yes, I will definitely consider that! I could do some pleating or pintucks on a solid voile for the bodice, but not on the embroidery. It’s just logistically unsuited to anything other than using it as is, or piecing it in long strips like they did in Sew Beautiful.
But yes, I’m definitely thinking of the front V now. Thanks!
