Sarvi, you are going to love your serger once you get going with it! It will speed up your sewing because it finished seam allowances soooo much more quickly than the sewing machine. And of course that’s just the tip of the iceberg…

This is great, Maggie! Would you have any interest in contributing a blog post about this idea? I think it would be really useful to other readers.

I think he’s fascinated. Knitting and sewing are skills he respects. Possibly because he’s still impressed that I can turn string into fabric. And bolts of fabric become garments.
Not that his eyes don’t glaze over when I start discussing seam finishing and types of hems. 😉

I should add, the topic title is the question prosed to me by my husband last night. When he asked, my response was, “I have a few things lined up on the business end, and probably selfish sewing for me with my new fabric I bought with my Christmas money. And I should probably get back to work on the drapes for the living room…sewing for the…[Read more]

Well we have just returned from hospital this morning after a delightful and relaxing six day stay.
The birth, by caesarean, was traumatic and painful! Very very different from the other two but it produced a very beautiful 8lb 10oz baby girl. Both of us are doing well now.
Her name? Chloe Jayne Elise. She is very different compared to my elder…[Read more]

I am making this dress https://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/16120786621/ for my cousin and as the voile is so light I have added a bemsilk skirt lining. The zipper is added after the skirt is attached so what I normally do in this case is treat the lining and main as one, the fabric is light enough that with some gentle pressing it works.

@mim22, thank you.
We had a scary and vigilant few days but the weather has broken now. We had a huge fire last year and lost a lot of fences, crops and sheds so we had cleared a lot of trees and scrubby undergrowth in anticipation.
My sister, who lives in the Adelaide Hills, was evacuated but her home was not burnt.I love sewing Liberty, I use…[Read more]

Dubhels2003- I have a long standing love of vintage patterns. I’ve had these patterns in my stash for awhile, & wanted to sew them, but just hadn’t sewn them for whatever reason. So glad I did!

I did okay with mine. I sewed more for me (thanks to pattern testing) and used patterns and fabric that I had in my stash. I think I only bought a handful of new patterns. I was also a bit more intentional with my fabric purchases. But lack of discipline is still an issue!
