It is now two episodes into season two of the great british sewing bee, 8pm GMT on BBC 2 on Tuesday. I’m not sure how you get it overseas.
Applications are open for season 3 contestants, I can’t convince my mum to enter which is a shame! -

For the most case, it won’t matter if you cut the straps with the grain or across the fabric.
I made some silk ties for a dress once and cut one with and one across and the one across stretched a little.
I shouldn’t think you would have a problem with most fabrics you would use for the bear carrier.
I hope that helps. -

Hi Pippi. I’ve been wondering about doing some cotton bias binding around the back neckline too. I’ve made many Field Trip T’s now and only one had a dreadful neckline and it was like that from the start (I blame too stretchy ribbing). None of the cotton/lycra ones have changed with time. So it seems Liesl’s right (as if she ever isn’t!) It’s…[Read more]

Really? That is awesome, thank you!
It is a great finish which I use a lot. Its a great way to line a top or bodice.

There are a lot of places where there can be a bit of ‘creep’:
when tracing
when cutting
when pinning
when stitching
And it’s partly that you’re dealing with fabric, which isn’t rigid and indeed isn’t even shifty in consistent ways (it wiggles differently on the straight grain and around the bias bits of a curve) and partly that you’re dealing…[Read more] -

This is unscientific, but I’d size it up by measuring the width of his back, and then from his shoulders to the small of his back and go from there to just eyeball it. Heidi’s comment made me think of this: http://www.slate.com/articles/life/cool_story/2013/10/two_straps_on_a_backpack_or_one_strap_what_s_cool.html

I made this shirt for my daughter http://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/7948860068/in/photostream/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/motherof5/8007554316/in/set-72157628144618165 (Oh how I disliked it).
I used the Sketchbook shirt collar and sandwiched it between the facing.

Our Biggies had a New Years Eve party and I think we may make a tradition of that. They had a lot of fun and so did Jed and I.
Happy New Years, sweet sewing friends!

One more thing – if you buy the press you will later be able to put in metal snaps too – the pliers only work with resin.
mkhs, do you find the sew-in snaps stay put ok? My grandmother always used to use them on the close she sewed for us and they were durable – but whenever I’ve done them, they seem so loose! I must not be sewing them properly. - Load More
