Our school is tiny (only 130 students) but I am very proud to share that my son, Hugo, won the Student of the Year award last night, at our Presentation Night.

He made a brilliant off-the-cuff speech, so very very proud of him.

  • I can feel your frustration but your over riding love for the pattern.
My special friend Deb gave me the tip of three rows of gathers to help smooth and ease a sleeve cap. I wonder if that may help here?

I think there are a lot of variables. I have some knit that is easily 20 years old and fine!

Wash it and give the fabric a good stretch, if it doesn’t recover its shape it has probably had its day.

  • I would do a muslin like stated above just so that you can get the fit and the skirt correct. You certainly don’t want the skirt to be tight all the way down. There is a way to slash and spread without altering the waist – cut up to but not through the seam allowance, but I am trusting you know this already.

Good luck and please show us the end…[Read more]

Oooh, looking at the size chart you may be pushing it… but since you already have it cut, I would chance it.
Maybe do a narrower side seam?

  • Hi Audrey

I can’t see why the Bistro dress couldn’t be lengthened. I suggest making a muslin first to see how it would go.

As an alternative, and if you have the pattern, you could also use the attache dress. This may achieve more of a flowing look to the skirt (as per you linked photo).

Either pattern would be perfect. What is the time length…[Read more]

Thankyou dubhels2003, you are kind. But I admit I am having an absolute ball sewing them all. Who doesn’t love sewing baby things?

I think we are getting there with the stain removal! White vinegar is magic stuff! I just can’t understand why it went like that though because I did a test on a piece if that fabric and everything. It came out of the…[Read more]

I really hope you manage to get the mark out of the bubble dress, I’ve been loving your little wardrobe appearing on flickr!

I’ve finally managed to squeeze in a little bit of sewing while the baby’s in bed. I’ve started a layette outfit and I’m part way through both the blouse and the jacket. I am never working with faux shearling again,…[Read more]

    @Robin, ditto!

  • Nicole replied to the topic Lace trim in the forum oliver + s: sleepover 11 years ago

I will have a look in the morning, I am sure I have some.
I would love to have you round for a pot of tea and we could both have a play.

  • Becky, I checked out my notes on this pattern and I have made the large size and the small and I have not made mention of any discrepancies.
I am sorry not to be more help.

I am happy to share, I was given the contents of a drapery section of a small country shop. It posts very cheaply.
Let me know what you are after and I will see what I have.

I am so gutted! I went to wash the marker out of the little white bubble today and ended up with a horrible yellow mark where the blue marker was! It is currently soaking in napisan and white vinegar. If it doesn’t come out then I shall have to make another one and remove the ribbon from the ruined one to reattach it.

    I have a small pile of…[Read more]

My waist is too big for my pants
I wonder if, maybe, by chance
    They shrunk in the wash
    Yet I’m ever so posh

  • juliamom2009 replied to the topic Sewing Book Advice in the forum off topic 11 years ago

Oh yes, how did I forget about Craftsy? Perfect suggestion! That way, she can choose herself. Smart people in this forum!!

  • Tamara replied to the topic Sewing Book Advice in the forum off topic 11 years ago

Oh yes! Jane that would be even better than a book. They have classes for all levels and she can learn all sorts of techniques – even how to make curtains!

Janice a book is a wonderful idea but I think if I were you I would look at craftsy. Then with all the recommendations for books in the many classes, she could tell you which book she would…[Read more]
