What is the shelf life of cotton knit fabric? I tried to Google this but I cannot find an answer.

I think there are a lot of variables. I have some knit that is easily 20 years old and fine!

Wash it and give the fabric a good stretch, if it doesn’t recover its shape it has probably had its day.

It all depends on where and how it is stored I would think also.

I am using fabric I bought when I worked at a fabric store in 1972, my first job after high school. I also have a closet-full collected over the years. The old fabrics are in perfect condition except for some permanent creases from being folded so long. I store it in plastic bins. I have had a problem with thread, though. Non-sewing friends have given me their mother’s sewing stuff, and some of the cotton thread has become weakened over time. If it breaks easily, I toss it.
