My husband has learnt his line.
I say “check out this invisible zip”
He says “what zip?”
Every time.He delivers it in such a deadpan, I know my role here, kind of way.
I’ll have to sew an exposed zipper one day and catch him out! -

@Liesl no worries! We had enjoyed exchanges rate well past parity for a good while that now that we aren’t it seems a hard slog to make the decision. This is an absolute no brainer!
@renee I had to laugh at the express postage being about $76 US ! To get to Australia in like 3 days! I am happy to wait a little while because it is worth the wait…[Read more]

Yep, the City Stroll skirt.
The Everyday Skirt is fuller and therefore more fabric hungry. -

You should try it @enbee you might be surprised. This is a 1m cut and as you can see it wasn’t even square.

I have just ordered my book – I am now wishing we could adopt the US currency to skip out on the expensive exchange rate – I know this book will be worth every cent of the almost $70 Australian dollars I spent just now – 😱 And I am very much looking forward to having it in my hot little hands.

I’d second the Art Museum trousers idea, but…
You could almost certainly squeeze a City Stroll skirt onto a 1m cut of linen. Just sayin… It’s yours. 🙂 -

The Gallery Tunic is a perfect “fake” shirt. You get a collar and placket to work with, but it’s a really easy placket technique. There are no buttonholes and fitting is easy as it’s a loose fitting style with pleats front and back for extra ease.
I’m living in a dress I made recently from this pattern, so it’s was to wear too.
Another vote for…[Read more] -

@enbee what about Art museum trousers? Because it is a wider fabric, you could easily get a pair of these from a yard.

I have finally finished my Ginger jeans and have cut out an Appleton top to hopefully wear tomorrow to try it out.
I am hoping the cone denim is in the mail tomorrow so I can get going on my second pair.
If not oh well it is a project for the weekend as term is ending and I have an extended school run to conduct on Friday.
I might, all things…[Read more]

@vothgirl with your knitting, they have been pieces haven’t they? So if they have (I know you had at least one) in essence, technically speaking you HAVE been sewing – just with wool and knitting and not in the conventional sense.
Thrilled to hear Ben is coming home – praying he gets home in time. It makes it all the more special for all of you.…[Read more]

Wow it’s been a long time since I last posted! Not sewing anything at the moment as my basement (where my sewing area is) is currently drying out. Last weekend my hot water heater decided to finish completely rusting out and flooded the basement carpet. Fortunately discovered it fairly quickly so we were able to clean up as it leaked. Praying no…[Read more]

I just had to share this one. I hope it translates well into writing as it was very funny to watch.
We had just finished shearing our lambs this afternoon and I brought my 20 month old daughter up to see the last of the action.
Whilst the workers were finishing off writing numbers, baling wool and packing up gear and the sheep were being lead…[Read more]

I will Heidi! Double princess seams is non existent in my pattern stash until now.
I have a few fabrics to choose from but they will team better with indigo denim rather than black.
Black jeans I hope to crack on with today – when I was supposed to take my things to Perth today but I have a child with a contagious disease so I don’t think they’d…[Read more]

@Harmony you have creative pets too? I wish mine would know that black is out of sitting bounds – no matter the project is it’s black…
Which leaves me doomed because I have the black denim laid out to cut a real pair of ginger jeans. I had a 40inch remnant and a 1.5 yard piece of cone indigo denim that I was really wanting to use but with all…[Read more]

@caraskates I searched for the image (frozen ignoramus I’m afraid) and how about this: Music Class blouse, Lazy Days Skirt then a bodice whatsit that laces at the back to go over the top.
Then you’ve got separates that are wearable as everyday items and whack in the brooch at the neck and the bodice and you’re instantly Anna.
You could use a…[Read more] -

My threenager is all about zip front jersey hooded tops. She also loves pink, and anything soft. I now accept that I’m better sewing her things she likes and will wear, as opposed to what I like. I’ve seen some cerise stretch velour which she would LOVE and would be very cosy for winter. In an attempt to get her to wear anything other than…[Read more]
