Lightning McStitch replied to the topic Coverstitch Machine? in the forum off topic 9 years ago
@purplevann1 if you really only want to hem t-shirts then my suggestion is to get familiar with a twin needle and woolly nylon. It will be almost free compared to coverstitch, dead easy to change thread colour and saves having to store another machine.
Or buy yourself something shiny 🙂 -

I’m not sure it’s intended for me.

My ten year old cracked me up when she asked if I was going to make a rough draft of a tshirt before I used the good fabric. Sounds better than making a muslin.

I watched it all the way through and may actually go back and re-watch from the beginning. I must say, I feel like some of the sewing was not as good as it has been in previous years. Just my opinion! To me, there was no clear front-runner. Definitely, I was kind of surprised at the outcome – my daughter actually screamed “Nooooooo” when her…[Read more]

I reckon I could find you a hot pink zipper!
Worth an enquiry to these guys http://www.lzf.com.au/ as they have a huge range and will cut to required length etc. I’ve used them for single zips before.
(otherwise, my answer to your question would be black. White would be very 1980s and grey a bit reminiscent of a Galah :)) -

I just took my kids out to my parents in the country for a couple of nights while it’s school holidays and we’re working.
The five year old was busy all morning writing notes and letters for her grandparents to give them when she got there. All notes started with “dear grand… and grand…” And finished with “love from A… by A…”
In the middle…[Read more] -

The link is perfect @libloucks took me straight there. Might look different to you as you’re logged in and your post may appear differently.
I’ll put my five cents worth in before Rachel answers…
If you used one layer quilting cotton and one layer of bamboo or cotton wadding then I think it would sew up fine and not be too bulky.
Alternately,…[Read more] -

Way to go @harmony it’s a nice feeling, knowing you’re learning and improving with every garment.
I just cut the welts open on the jacket I’m making. Doesn’t matter how many times I sew a welt, the moment when you slash them open is nerve wracking.
Add in that this is the most expensive fabric I’ve ever bought and it’s taken a week to get the…[Read more] -

Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoBack when I was younger/perter/leaner I would have foregone the underwear and worn these styles. Nowadays I’d limit it to gym wear or swimmers (racer back) or lingerie or black tie (spaghetti straps). I can’t deal with visible bra straps, and can’t be bothered with strapless bras for everyday wear 😣

I very much adhere to the “it’s only fabric” ethos.
All of the above advice is excellent but don’t frighten yourself by overthinking it.
In trying something new I figure all we have to lose is fabric costs (and Liesl’s shopping tips are fabulous) and our time. For me, it’s not like I’m turning down party invitations to stay home and sew of an…[Read more] -

Sewing for Yourself 9 years agoLiesl, would it be pretty simple to change the width of the spaghetti strap? Feels like an easy modification.
Racer backs are great for working out. Easy to wear with a sports bra.

Thanks for reminding me of Ashley’s fabric sourcing tips. A pair of cargo shorts in that kind of nylon blend is exactly what my husband would want me to sew for him (getting my threads crossed)

I’m calling for clarification on that one @todd …
“wretch” (noun) a poor, miserable person.
“retch” (verb) to gag or vomit
“wrench” (verb) to twist and pull
I’m guessing, from context, you were going for wrench… Poetic license bring what it is, and this being a limerick thread on a sewing forum, you can make up any word/meaning you like of…[Read more] - Load More
