Working on finishing my Girl Friday culottes! I put them on hold over Mother’s Day as my parents drove in to spend a few days. Then Olivia had her first birthday Friday and the sewing kept getting put off. I’m in the middle of inserting the zipper. I’m making them out of graphite kona cotton, since I’m not sure how this style will look on me and I…[Read more]

@roundtheworldgirl thanks! That looks doable and gives me food for thought.
Also meant to ask above, has anyone modified the Fairy Tale dress to have a basque waist? Since it’s the first pattern I thought of and all the Disney princesses have that pointed waistline 😉

My daughter is currently obsessed with Sleeping Beauty, so for her 3rd birthday this summer I’m thinking of sewing a princess dress for her. Any ideas on which patterns/alterations/hacks I could use? For the pink dress. I googled patterns but the only one I found is out of print and copies on eBay run $25-40. Plus I’d rather work with a pattern…[Read more]

Can you seam some scrap fabric and have her hold/rub it against her skin, maybe around the neck where the seams might be thickest? See which version feels nicest for her?

You should be fine. Do what works best for you and your daughter.

I made a Carousel dress for Liddy (11),today.
I used sand coloured velvet/uncut cord (not sure what it is) with red topstitching. It has quite a medieval feel to it.

@georgeandizzy that’s awesome! I made one out of a piece of printer paper but the curved edge on the one in your link looks easier to use. Picking one up on my next trip to Joann’s!
When I made this skirt, I had to put in a couple tiny tucks on the folded-under edge to get it to lay flat. The tucks aren’t visible from the outside of the dress :-).

Just a tip — if you post these changes in the caption of the photo, they will be more easily available for anybody who searches the flickr pool for inspiration and comes across your dress. You can include notes about what size you made and what fabric you used as well, people often are curious about that.

I am sorry Masha.
If it is any comfort, the moonboot offers a lot of support. Jed polished all our timber floors wearing one.All the best with the birth, I will be thinking of you.

Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoI really like both top patterns and will be purchasing as soon as I have a little extra “me” money. The Gallery top looks like it would be the perfect top (made in a voile or gauze) to throw on over a tank top or camisole for the slightly cooler summer nights at the beach. I probably won’t make it as a dress as I like my dresses to be more…[Read more]

Sewing for Yourself 10 years agoI love the Gallery so much, I just wish it was a two piece collar. I can see it becoming another Portfolio dress. Hunted down and sort after.
The Maritime is divine, such a slimming and flattering style.
The skirt is so cute, I am concerned how it will look on me as I have a very thick waist and poochy tummy but I love it.
I can see how much…[Read more]

sayiamyou replied to the topic Reversible Swing set? in the forum oliver + s: swingset 10 years ago
I have made the skirt reversible several times. I omit the ties, and leave both elastic casing for a ruffled top. My daughter loves them.
I don’t know why you couldn’t still use buttons for the top. It seems to me that it’d be similar to when I made the bubble dress reversible, but used buttons to coordinate with each side.
