A few years back, Liesl gave us the tip of reversing the nap of cord so it is more velvety and lush.
Her is a perfect example of how good it looks https://www.flickr.com/photos/128353028@N04/15215509103/in/pool-oliverands/The fabric almost glows.

I would button them on rather then sew them on. Also, consider adding some elastic to the back bottom edge of the strap, stretched to fit inside the strap, for ease.
For the Sketchbook ‘knicker bockers’ I would pleat the bottom of the shorts and add a cuff, like a waistband.
This is how I would attach it (but to the cuff)…[Read more]

Don’t forget wool!
You can buy jumpers (sweaters) from Op Shops and cut them up and sew leggings from them. -

@FrancesSuzanne, I am no expert but I overlay patterns when I want to size down.
So I would lay the Bubble dress bodice over the Playtime then flip over and perhaps fold some out?
Just a running thought…. -

I can second the vote for Kwiksew patterns, seriously ugly pattern covers but a good solid pattern.

I had thought of adding a cuff to the Sketchbook to make knicker bockers http://www.pinterest.com/pin/73676143878629714/
The Sailboat short are perfect to add a simple suspender strap too, in fact that pattern has an old world feel to it.
How tall are they? Could they carry off a Music Class blouse with Puppet Show shorts? Perhaps lengthen/tuck…[Read more]

It would also be very easy to slim down the Art Museum trousers based on a pair of pants that fits well. The Field Trip and Sandbox patterns have wide legs.

Maybe consider buying the small range of the After School pattern, since it is actually a fantastic pants pattern for little boys too? 😉

I like this idea. I was considering Nature Walk pants for Maggie in pink sweatshirt fleece – poly fleece would be even warmer! I think the big thing for leggings is that the fabric needs to be pretty stretchy and have good recovery (snap back) – otherwise you’ll either have difficulty getting them on and moving, or you’ll have baggy knees and butt.

Slightly off topic, but you all seem very knowledgeable on this topic :). What would be your recommendations for making the playtime dress (woven version) in a smaller size than offered? Ultimately we would like to achieve a look similar to the bubble dress (which goes down to a 0-3M, I believe), but need long sleeves, if that helps any.…[Read more]

As long as your fabric has enough stretch it should be fine. Mood had a really interesting fleece the other day that looked like ponte on the face but had that nice soft fleece on the back of it. Something like that would be great, provided it stretches enough. Especially the leg openings, to get over feet.
