I recently had this problem as well. As it turned out, the hook itself needed to be replaced because it had bent. I’d recommend bringing it to a good repair shop who can analyze the problem for you. It’s probably best if you can show them exactly what’s happening. Now that mine has been replaced it’s running like a dream–for the first time in ages!

@mari, unfortunately that particular pattern will never be available again. Simplicity took it out of print, and it will not be re-released.

We don’t have a “wanted” board here, but I do know that pattern shows up on eBay every once in a while. You could check there for it.

I’d be inclined to go with either gold (or brass) or silver for the yardware. Here are a few examples that might help you choose:
