Julia R. I think because of the loose nature of this below the waist you could just go with your waist measurements. I am not an expert by any means, so maybe someone more knowledgeable about fitting your body shape will chime in.

Liesl,
I changed the center pleat and that helped a lot. I still have about .5 inches extra, but that is probably user error. I have never sewn anything with a perfect seam allowance. I will scootch some of the pleats over a smidge and it will end up perfect.
Thanks so much for checking this. I was starting to feel a bit inept not knowing…[Read more] -

Liesl, I am making a size 12.

I am working on a pair of Soho shorts. It has gone together really well until now. I am trying to sew the waistband to the shorts but the front waistband is about 2 inches longer than the shorts. The back is perfectly fine. Now since there are pleats my first course of action was to look back at the pattern pieces to see if I did something…[Read more]

Thanks Lightning and Liesl, I guess I will do the FBA. I have never done a knit shirt for myself before. It should be fun sewing. I hope.

I am planning to make one of these Maritime tops in Knit. Did anyone decide if a FBA is needed?
Oh, my measurements are 32 high, 36 mid?, and 30 low (right under the bust, rib cage I guess). Just because I love having my measurements floating around on the internet. -

Oh, I am so glad. My daughter will love this.

Do I really have to finish the seam allowances on the inside of the shirt? For example after I sew the side seams do I need to zigzag over the inside edges? It says to in the instructions but I know knit is not supposed to fray. My daughter is extra picky about comfort otherwise I’d just do it.

I love both tops. The Maritime I am nervous about because I haven’t sewn much with Knits. I have the hopscotch pattern though and I am going to make a few of them for my daughter (I already made 1 last week) and if they turn out OK I will try the Maritime. I love that style.
I love the Gallery tunic most. I can see me making many of those…[Read more]

Cat75 replied to the topic How to adjust sizes in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 9 years ago
I would be concerned that even though your son is thin his torso is not the same length as a 2 year old. So if you went straight 2t then just added length in the leg the fit might be wonky around the seat. What size pants do you usually make for him?

Cat75 replied to the topic Which size would you use (4 or 5)? in the forum sewing with liesl + co and oliver + s 9 years ago
I would buy the larger size. Unless you plan to make something right now, like an Easter dress or something special. I just can’t justify spending money on something I might not get around to using.

What about the pinwheel? Just alter the skirt part to not have a ruffle.

Butterick was on sale at my Joann’s for $1.99. The Lisette dress I bought didn’t ring up but the lady fixed it because it was advertised on sale.
Sarvi, I have the Joann App on my phone which shows current sales. I have shown that to the cashier before and they will change the price. I always check before I go because my Joann’s has issues. -

I will have to look into that book.
I finished the embroidered edging on my pillowcase. I think it’s pretty but it definitely has some quirks.Linda
Thanks for trying to help with my issue. I think changing crochet hook size helps with making sure gauge is correct also (as with knitting). I should have measured as I went along to…[Read more] -

I crochet some. Although I haven’t much the last couple of years. My gauge is always off (really big.) I made my daughter a sweater vest that I could fit into. It discouraged me. Now, I stick to baby blankets.
Lately I have been trying to learn to embroider. I am a little frustrated right now. I just read somewhere online that I am not…[Read more]

Well, I’m a little late but…Sew more for myself. Sew things my daughter will actually wear. I get tired of making things that don’t get worn. I would like to work more with hand embroidery. It’s fun and portable (but I don’t know what I’m doing.) Use fabric I already own and only buy fabric that is in plain colors. I have so many busy…[Read more]
